Speaker Application Form

The San Diego Professional Coaches Alliance (SDPCA) has always thrived from the dedication and volunteerism of its members and those who have made presentations to our members in the past. Their presentations have made a valuable contribution to our community’s body of knowledge and to the personal and professional development of our members. We encourage you to partner with us in continuing this tradition of providing our members with outstanding presentations.

Our members are attracted to meetings where presentations build core skills, share best practices and innovations, and lead the way on trends. They want programs that are a learning experience with application toward the coaching field. Therefore, we give preference to presentations that qualify for CCE/CEU for ICF and BCC credential holders.

If you are selected to present, please view this opportunity as a commitment like any other, confirming that you are able to deliver the session by securing the support of your organization and managing your workload and clients to keep this time open. We understand that things do happen and appreciate your advance notice in the event of extreme circumstances that prevent your attendance. We are only able to accept one proposal per year from a speaker or organization.

Speaker Responsibilities

1.  Speaker must:

a.  Avoid using brand names and/or endorsing specific products.

b.  Not directly or indirectly promote his/her personal or organization’s business, products, or services. The SDPCA will provide a table for promotional materials that can be used before and after the presentation.

c.  Refrain from overt statements, harsh language, or pointed humor that disparages the rightful dignity and social equity of any individual or group.

2.  Speaker’s presentation is on a voluntary, unpaid basis.

3.  SDPCA provides a laptop that connects to an AV system and is available for use by speakers.

4.  Speaker may, if they prefer, bring their own laptop containing their presentation and a remote control.

5.  Speaker prepares handouts they want to distribute at the meeting at their cost.

6.  SDPCA cannot provide a flipchart, flipchart paper, or a whiteboard.

7.  SDPCA does not normally reimburse travel expenses incurred by a speaker. If such reimbursement will be requested, it must be submitted in writing to the VP Professional Development and approved by the Board in advance.

Speaker Promotion

·  We promote upcoming speakers and their topics on the Events page of our website as soon as we receive the required information from the speaker and it has been reviewed and approved by the Program Committee. We include a link to the speaker’s website.

·  We promote the speaker and the presentation topic in our monthly newsletters that are sent to over 600 recipients.

·  We set aside a table for speakers to feature their products or books available for purchase. Speakers are responsible for managing the table during the meeting.

·  Our meeting room is available for speakers to conduct their own workshop or seminar on the same day in the afternoon between 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The cost to subcontract the room is $100 for non-members and $75 for members. If the speaker plans to charge attendees, speakers agree to offer a preferential discount to our members.

Selection Criteria and Review

The speaker’s proposed session must clearly apply to our member audience, which is primarily comprised of business and life coaches. The presentation must be delivered by a speaker with substantial topic knowledge as well as skill in facilitating learning experiences and/or speaking to large groups. The criteria will also include:

·  Content that is current and practical, cutting edge or innovative as it relates to coaching.

·  Programs and initiatives that demonstrate measurable business impact and results.

·  Clear, specific, and informative content that is directly linked to the benefits/outcomes and that can realistically be met in the time allotted.

·  We prefer presentations that involve interaction with attendees and/or include group activities.

·  Completeness, accuracy, and clarity of the proposal. Proposals that are incomplete will not be considered.

·  We endeavor to select programs that provide our members with a balanced slate of speakers representing diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, organizations, and internal/external practitioners.
