Reduced Course Load Request

Final Semester

The purpose of this form is for F-1 and J-1 international students to request a reduction in their course load in the final semester of their program of study. It is available at:

International students in F-1 or J-1 immigration status are required to be registered full-time every semester. Failure to register or maintain full-time enrollment may result in the loss of F-1 or J-1 status. Students may seek authorization to be enrolled less than full-time in their final semester. Full-time enrollment is:

Undergraduates
(Fall/Spring) / 12 units or more. Note: Some colleges may require more than 12 units to be considered full-time (e.g. Letters & Sciences full-time = 13 units). Students only need to submit this form to BIO if they are dropping below 12 units.
Graduates
(Fall/Spring) / Defined by the department

Student Certification: I understand that after completing my degree, I will enter my 60-day (F-1) or 30-day (J-1) grace period. During my grace period, I must do one of the following: depart the US (one time only), request a transfer to another school, or apply for Optional Practical Training (F-1). J-1 students must apply for Academic Training or a Transfer prior to the end of the semester and their DS-2019 end date.
