Janitor

Purpose of Role

As a member of the JanitorialTeam the purpose of the role is to help ensure the school environment is organised effectively to support all its activities. Specifically, the job holder will spend their time achieving and maintaining standards of cleanliness, tidiness and order, through the completion of routine and ad hoc tasks. In addition, the job holder will support the needs of the School by applying their efforts to whatever requires attention within the wider remit of their team.

The Janitorial Team work on a rotational, shift basis to cover school opening hours of 7.00am to 10.00pm

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Security:Carry out security procedures for school buildings remaining vigilant at all times
  • Porterage: Move furniture and equipment within the School as requested.
  • General Tidiness:Ensure a neat and tidy environment by carrying out tasks as detailed on the duties list.
  • Deliveries:Take or make deliveries of stores, materials and other goods
  • Cleaning: Carry out general cleaning duties inside and outside the School as detailed on the duties list or as requested by your Shift Leader.
  • Transportation: Drive the School mini bus as requested
  • Other duties:Due to the nature of the position there can be a number of other duties required. The following list is intended to provide examples and is not exhaustive. Where any duty necessitates training this will be provided.

-Assist the Premises Team with maintenance tasks

-Deal with Lost Property

-Assist Cashier in emptying revaluation units

-Liaise with external contractors as required

The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience of working in a school or similar environment is desirable
  • Full clean driving licence with appropriate qualification to drive a minibus
  • Flexibility and sensitivity to the needs of a wide range of users of the school
  • Awareness of the main requirements of health and safety legislation and good practice relevant to the duties of the post
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team but also on their own with minimum supervision
  • Has a friendly yet professional and respectful approach which demonstrates support and shows mutual respect.
  • Takes responsibility, and is accountable for, their actions
  • Demonstrates a “can do” attitude e.g. suggests solutions, participates in supporting the wider school remit, trusts& encourages others,strives to exceedthe school’s expectations.
  • Acts with pace and urgency being energetic, enthusiastic and decisive.
  • Has the ability to learn from experiences and challenges.
  • Experience in painting and decorating would be advantageous.
