Position: Sr. Molding Engineer

Reports To: Transportation Business Engineering Program Manager

Location:Warren, RI/Fall River, MA

We currently have an opening for a Sr. Molding Engineer. This position will be based in our Fall River Massachusetts facility and will report to the Transportation Engineering Program Manager.

This position will focus on Process Development in TPI’s newly commissioned Advanced Transportation Composites Center (ATCC) using High-Pressure Resin Transfer Molding (HP-RTM) and Liquid Compression Molding (LCM). This HP-RTM laboratory is the first of its kind in the United States and is focused on high volume composites manufacturing for automotive. TPI is leading the charge to bring this technology to US manufacturers, similar equipment is currently being utilized in Europe.

The Senior Molding Engineer will oversee the development of injection processes in the ATCC and development of automated composites processes used in transportation and other industries.

In this role you will work to develop and implement optimal, automated manufacturing processes for the fabrication of large composite structures for transition into high volume production facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of new processes in the ATCC
  • Define investigations for process trials
  • Make recommendations on the technical direction of the ATCC
  • Work with the Design Engineering group to ensure a technically feasible part
  • Work with ATCC Engineering Technician to develop processes/plans
  • Define appropriate tooling for parts with tooling suppliers
  • Troubleshooting issues through use of SPC

Education / Skills / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar technical field required
  • Requires experience in composites manufacturing
  • Minimum experience of 10+ years

Specific Skills:

  • Must be an expert in the areas of RTM and other compression molding processes
  • Must have strong working knowledge of composite part manufacturing, associated tooling, drawing and specification compliance, blue print reading understanding customer contract requirements and engineering design specifications
  • Broad knowledge of resins /fibers /fabrics, cure cycles, bonding of metal and composites
  • Excellent computer skills with Full Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Minitab for data analysis
  • GD&T, surface finishes, sealants, rain erosion paint, primers and top coats
  • Must have strong English oral and written communications skills
  • Must be able to create detailed technical reports with analysis, findings and recommendations
