  1. Position Purpose

»Provide safe and efficient transport service for City of Casey residents.

»Provide a safe and efficient transport service for theCommonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and the Home and Community Care (HACC) clients attending Council organised programs.

  1. Key Responsibility Areas

»Ability to pick up residents from designated collection points and transport them safely to their scheduled destination.

»Assist passengers to and from the vehicle, using hoists where required, fitting restraints, and stowing baggage or equipment in accordance with council’s policies.

»Ensure you comply with the Victorian Road Laws and the City of Casey Driver Manual.

»Whilst on program assist other council staff and volunteers to support the needs of the attending clients.

»Ensure regular cleaning of the Community Transport Service fleet of buses.

»Draw on a range of information sources to identify new ways of doing things and building continuous improvement.

»Through leadership and example promote Casey’s trademark behaviours: show respect, take responsibility, listen and respond, be positive, think things through.

»The position requires proficiency in the application of standardised program procedures, and practices and proficiency of bus driving.

»May be required to undertake driver awareness coaching and/or competency training.

  1. Inherent Physical Requirements

»In order to perform the required duties, the incumbent must successfully complete a pre-employment functional assessment.

»Ability to assist elderly and frail passengers to board and disembark via the door or wheelchair hoist.

»Ability to load and unload equipment such as walking frames and wheelchairs.

»Use a computer

»Communicate clearly

»Drive a vehicle

  1. Qualifications and Experience

»First Aid accreditation or willingness to obtain during probation period.

»Knowledge and skills gained through on-the-job training commensurate with the requirements of the work outlined in this position description.

»Previous experience working with frail aged and younger people with disabilities.

»Light Rigid Driver's Licence which is valid to drive within Victoria.

»Working with Children Check.

  1. Conditions of Employment

»Conditions of employment are as per the City of Casey Enterprise Agreement, Casey’s policies and procedures and the letter of offer.

»Hours - The position is part-time worked 12hours per week.Additional hours will be available during times when bus drivers employed by the City of Casey Transport Service are on leave.

»Tenure –This is a limited tenure role until 30 June 2019. The position is not permanent and there is no guarantee of ongoing employment.

»Health Declaration - The preferred applicant is required to complete a Health Declaration form and return it to the Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator prior to commencement.

»Physio/Medical Examination - The preferred applicant is required to have a pre-employment physio/medical examination (at Council’s expense). Accounts for broken appointments are the responsibility of the applicant.

»VicRoads Licence check – The position is subject to the successful applicant having a satisfactory VicRoads Licence check in relation to criminal history and motor vehicle licence status prior to commencement, and then regularly as per Council policy.

»Criminal Records Check - This position is subject to the successful applicant having a satisfactory Police Check prior to commencement at Council’s expense and then as regularly as the position requires as per Council Policy.

»Working with Children Check – This position is subject to the successful applicant having a satisfactory Working with Children Check prior to commencement, and then as regularly as per legislative requirements.

»Transport – Employees are expected to use Council-owned vehicles whenever practical and reasonable to do so, for work-related travel. In the event that an employee uses a privately-owned vehicle for work-related travel, Council recommends that the vehicle be comprehensively insured and the insurance company notified that the vehicle is being used for work-related travel. If an employee using a privately owned, comprehensively insured vehicle for work-related travel is involved in an accident they may be eligible for reimbursement of the insurance excess. Vehicles not comprehensively insured will not be eligible for reimbursement.

»Sick Leave - A medical certificate may be required for any absence and must be provided for sick leave exceeding three working days or absence on the working day before or after a rostered day off, annual leave or public holiday.

»Multiskilling - The employee may be directed to carry out any duties within the limit of his/her skills, competence and training, provided that such duties do not promote a narrowing of their skill base.

»Risk Management – Employees must understand and comply with risk management policy and procedures.

»Employment Status –The successful applicant must provide proof of permission to work in Australia prior to commencement.

»Probation Period - A six month Probation Period applies to this position. This period will be extended in line with any period of unpaid or unauthorised leave.
