Students will come to understand the strong appeal, the hardships and the rewards of making the trek to mine gold in the Klondike. Students will use a variety of resources including primary sources from the Library of Congress to enhance their understanding of the people that put their lives and fortunes on the line for the chance of striking it rich.

Objectives / Students will:
·  search the LOC for primary source maps and pamphlets to plan their trips.
·  use pictures and movie files from the LOC to create a PowerPoint detailing their trips
·  give an oral presentation to the class detailing the plans.

Day One:
·  Students will watch the Unitedstreaming video entitled: “Klondike Fever” in the classroom. This will set the stage for the project.
·  The teacher will give a brief overview of the assignment, and the planning sheet found in the handouts section and rubric will be distributed.
Days Two-Four:
·  Students will utilize the LOC and other sites to determine their route to the gold.
·  As the students research, they will fill out their planning sheet that will be utilized to create their PowerPoint.
Days Five and Six:
·  Students will create the PowerPoint presentation for their trip.
Day Seven:
·  Students will present their trip plan to the rest of the class in the classroom.
