REP DEVELOPMENT & REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM OVERVIEW

WELCOME

Welcome to what will be the 2016 season of representative netball at Pine Rivers Netball Association (PRNA).This information guide will provide you with a brief overview of what is expected for the 2016representative year. Please take the time to read this document carefully as there are some importantdates, parent volunteer expectancy and costs involved in representative commitments.

PROGRAM

REP DEVELOPMENT: (years – 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16 years) $50

PRNArep development program is aimed at allowing you to train at a higher level, continue your progression as a player, and gaining mateship with potential team mates from other clubs within our association.The program itself focuses on basic skills: footwork and specialist positions such as defence, centre court and shooting skills. Players may experience playing different positions to discover further knowledge of the netball game. For the older players, intensity and complexity is increased to ensure maximum benefit to all players.

PHASE ONE will be conducted at the PRNA courts on

6th, 13th & 20th October 2015 - 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 years

5.45pm to 8pm

REPRESENTATIVE PHASES: (12, 13, 14, 15 & 16 years)$50

Following the compulsory rep development phase,the selection phasescommence. Coaches will work with players ensuring advanced skill sets are delivered, players are placed in game formation catering the two positions selected and final selections will be made.The two nominated positions are for selection purposes only, and selectors and coaches may alter the nominated positions to ensure the best possible team combination. After each phase, player numbers will be reduced to finally achieve a representative age squad.PRNA reserves the right to include players from outside Associations who may transfer into the Association after these phases. 12 year old teams will not be named until after carnivals in early 2016.

PHASE TWO will be conducted at Genesis School, Youngs Crossing Road, Warner in the covered sports area next to the pool. Parents will not be able to attend and view these trials. The dates for the trials are as follows:

-24th October – 9am to 12noon12 years

-24th October – 1pm to 5pm13 years

-25th October – 9am to 12noon14 years

-25th October – 1pm to 5pm15 & 16 years

15 & 16 years will be selected into final squads after this stage

PHASE THREE – will be conducted at PRNA Courts between 5.45pm and 8pm.

Players will then work with guest and representative coaches for two sessions increasing their skill level. Again, these sessions will concentrate on building intensity and developing some advanced skills, with court game exposure and tactical play. 15 & 16 year olds will work with their 2016 coaches and guest coaches during these two sessions building combinations.

PHASE FOUR – will be conducted at the Genesis School, Youngs Crossing Road, Warner in the covered sports area next to the pool. Parents will not be able to attend and view these trials.

This final selection phase where court play will be conducted again concentrating on the player’s two nominated positions.The two nominated positions are for selection purposes only, and selectors and coaches may alter the nominated positions to ensure the best possible team combination.

BEACH BONDING SESSION - (years 12, 13, 14, 15)

A compulsory beach bonding session will be conducted on 14th November from 9:00 to 1:00pm. This session is for the final selected players following the completion of Phase 4. The day will include games and activities held at Dicky Beach Surf Life Saving Club. To reduce costs, we ask parents to kindly car pool players to the venue for the day. A BBQ lunch will be provided for players and officials.

UNIFORM

DEVELOPMENT AND PHASES:

Players will be required to wear a PRNA development singlet with black bike pants. The singlet is included in the costs for development. On selection into the PRNA squads, the cost of the compulsory full outfit for first year players will be approximately $330 for 2016. Uniform fittings and FULL PAYMENT will take place on Saturday 21November. This is compulsory for all new players and any existing player who require a new size of any item(s). Below are the times for attending fittings:

TRAINING

Official training will commence Tuesday 25th January 2016 and continues on all Tuesday nights. This training will be held at the PRNA courts, starting at 6pm and finishing at 8pm and is for all teams. All players should arrive at 5.45pm. Coaches may from time to time introduce additional training sessions, parents and players will be informed of these sessions in advance.

Senior players will be advised of the dates and times for their training. Players are to bring a towel, water and snack. Records will be kept of every player’s attendance at training and carnivals. Parents are reminded during training sessions, you should remain under the covered area ensuring players are paying attention to their coaches and limiting any injuries that may occur due to spectators being near the courts.

STATE EVENTS AND DAY CARNIVALS COSTS

DAY CARNIVALS:

There will be a number of day carnivals attended throughout the season. PRNA generally attend about five other association carnivals and the PRNA Representative carnival,which is compulsory for all teams.These costs include carnival nomination fees, bus hire fees (if applicable) and umpire fees. Prices are subject to changeper carnival pending distance and arrangements of travel (bus or parent).

NOTE:

At carnivals, players are to remain with their coach, manager and team for the duration of the day until after presentation is complete. We wish to respect other associations and our team achievements by supporting the winners and runner-ups. Should PRNA teams not be in contention then a decision will be made by the Rep Coordinator on the day, when players may leave the carnival. Under special circumstances only, will a player be allowed to leave after the conclusion of play. Should a special circumstance exist, a written letter must be provided to the Rep Coordinator for consideration. The provision of this letter does not guarantee acceptance by the Rep Coordinator. Penalties may be implemented, including the removal of the player from representative duties, should a parent make their own decision to leave with their child.

To assist us to reduce the costs of representative duties, there is always a big focus on fundraising. We are hoping to conduct a Trivia Night,numerous fundraising BBQs, chocolate drives and raffles. We encourage you to support these initiatives.

SEQ Competition (15 years up)

The SEQ Challenge provides a representative competition for Netball Queensland registered Associations within South East Queensland for the development of players, coaches and umpires. The competition also provides a pathway from Association level netball through to the Mission Queensland State Netball League competition. SEQ Challenge is played Thursday (Open divisions) and Friday (16s and 19s divisions) evenings at the State Netball Centre – Klumpp Road, Mt Gravatt. Time slots rotate between 6.30pm; 8pm & 9.30pm.

Selection for these teams will be advised on our Facebook page in early 2016. A nomination fee of $20 applies for trialling purposes. 16s who wish to be considered for SEQ must elect to play representative netball at State Age. Netball Queensland rules identify players in this competition players cannot compete at Challenge competition, therefore must be selected in division 1 side. 15s may be invited in to trial for this competition.

FEES

Uniform Fees are expected to be paid IN FULL on the day of fittings, 21st November 2015. State Events and day carnivals are to be paid IN FULL prior to the event in 2016.Payment plans can be arranged with the Representative Coordinator at the commencement of the rep season. If a player has not paid the relevant fees in full by the dates stipulated then inclusion in the team will be at the discretion of the Management Committee.

SEQ Challenge fees must be paid by March 2016 at a cost of $230.

PARENT HELP

In 2013, a PARENT COMMITTEE was introduced, and as this was successful it will continue in 2016. This committee comprises of 2 parents from each representative team. This committee is responsible for assisting our players and officials in various duties, such as tent and equipment transport, setting up and pulling down of tents and cleaning the equipment. Volunteers will be sought for this committee as soon as teams are announced. Every assistance is valued greatly.

PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT

In addition to Netball Queensland General Code of Behaviour, as a player in any activity held by or under the auspices of Netball Australia, Netball Queensland, a Region, an Affiliated Association or an Affiliated Club you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any such activity or event:

1. Compete by the competition conditions and rules.

2. Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted.

3. Be a good sport. Encourage and support your own team members, other PRNA teams and opposition teams at all times.

4. Play for the fun of it and not just to please parents and coaches

5. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of fellow players, coaches, officials and spectators.

6. Refrain from conduct which could be regarded as sexual or other harassment.

7. Respect the talent, potential and development of fellow players and competitors. Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player.

8. Care and respect the uniform and equipment provided to you. Wear the official uniform at all times, proudly and respectably, as directed by PRNA.

9. Be frank and honest with your coach concerning illness and injury and your ability to train and play.

10. Conduct yourself in a responsible manner relating to language, temper and punctuality. Take responsibility for your own behaviour and performance.

11. Maintain a high standard of personal behaviour at all times.

12. Abide by the rules and respect the decision of the umpires. Be courteous and use the correct process when seeking a rule clarification.

13. Be honest in your attitude and preparation to training. Work equally hard for yourself and your team.

14. Cooperate with coaches and staff in relation to programs that adequately prepare you for Competition.

15. Smoking, drinking of alcoholic beverages and use of illegal substances is strictly forbidden whilst attending any PRNA event, training, carnival or whilst wearing the PRNA uniform.

16. Ensure team officials know your whereabouts at all times.

17. Remain within the designated area at competitions.

18. Use social networking with respectability and integrity. Do not criticise, ridicule or in any way offend other persons, officials, organisations or associations on social networking sites.

PARENT, GUARDIAN, SPECTATOR CODE OF BEHAVIOUR

In addition to Netball Queensland’s General Code of Behaviour, as a parent/guardian of a player in any activity held by or under the auspices of Netball Australia, Netball Queensland, a Region, an Affiliated Association or an Affiliated Club, you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any such activity or event:

1. Encourage children to participate, do not force them. Realise that children play sport for their enjoyment, not yours.

2. Focus upon your child’s efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This assists your child in setting realistic goals related to his/ her ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.

3. Encourage children to always participate according to the rules.

4. Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.

5. Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good plays by all teams.

6. Support all efforts to remove verbal abuse from netball sporting activities.

7. Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise.

8. Please address any disagreements with an umpire or coach via the appropriate channels, rather than question their judgement and honesty in public.

9. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse.

10. Recognise and respect the value and importance of volunteer administrators, coaches and umpires. They give up their time and resources to provide recreational activities for players and deserve your support.

11. Be a model of good sports behaviour for children to copy.

12. Be courteous in communication with administrators, coaches, players and umpires and teach children to do likewise.

13. Support the use of age appropriate development activities and modified rules.

14. Spectators are requested not to smoke near the netball courts.

15. PRNA does not permit any animals on or near the courts at any time. Bikes, roller blades, scooters, skateboards etc are not permitted near the courts.

16. No spectator is to photograph any player or players without first having obtained permission to do so by the team coach or manager.

17. PRNA and the executive committee reserves the right to immediately remove from Pine Rivers premises, any person, to have breached this code of behaviour.
