1. Introduction

The Landscaping department, together with the Learning Innovation and Development department at Holmesglen, are working on a government-funded program to support digital learning.

This document is an illustrated guide on how to use video technology to be assessed for your course.

You will use a video assessment kit at your workplace to connect ‘live’ with your trainer/assessor at Holmesglen.

2. Setting up for remote video assessment

Overview

This guide explains how to take part in a remote video assessment of your skills in the unit AHCLSC302A Construct landscape features using concrete. Instead of visiting you at your workplace, your trainer/assessor will connect with you via their computer at Holmesglen. You will use the video assessment kit to demonstrate your skills ‘live’ to your trainer/assessor, who can then give you immediate feedback.

Planning for your remote video assessment

It is important that you plan your remote video assessment with both your trainer/assessor and your employer so that you all know what will happen and when.

You will need to talk with your trainer/assessor about:

·  what they would like you to demonstrate in the assessment

·  scheduling a date and time for the assessment.

You will need to talk with your employer about:

·  the assessment date and time, to make sure it suits them too

·  setting up any equipment and materials you will need for the assessment

·  assisting you with setting up and operating the video assessment kit.

Remember to contact your trainer/assessor if you need to change the date or time of the assessment.

Setting up the video assessment kit

The following diagram shows the setup for the video assessment kit from both the student and trainer/assessor’s perspectives.

Remote assessment setup

Your trainer/assessor will view the video streaming from camera 1 and camera 2 at their computer, which will be connected to two Internet browser tabs (one tab for each camera).

·  a student checklist for the video assessment kit items

·  steps for the student to set up the video assessment kit

·  a trainer/assessor checklist for video assessment

What you need to do

Once you have set up the video assessment kit you can demonstrate your skills to your trainer/assessor. Your trainer/assessor may ask you or your employer to move camera 2 to give a better view of the assessment area.

What the trainer/assessor does

Your trainer/assessor can give you immediate feedback on your demonstration over the phone.

If they assess you as ‘Not yet competent’ (NYC) they may ask you to do some more practice before being assessed again.

Packing up the video assessment kit

After you have completed your remote video assessment, please disconnect and pack up the equipment, ready for it to be returned to Holmesglen.
