Course Understanding:

Students will be expected to learn the skills of journalism to produce a short TV news station show for the school. Students will learn how to use iMovie 11, Photoshop, illustrator, diesublimation printing, laser, Microsoft Word and other software.

Student expectation:

Materials

There is no textbook for this class. Information will be distributed through handouts and online resources. Notes and resources will be saved electronically to the student’s folder on the building server. If the student plans to transfer pictures from personal camera to the school computer you may want to have a jump drive. Please do not bring personal cameras to school.

We will not provide head phones, students will need to bring in their own for the class.

Behavior

Respect others and respect yourself.

Be responsible and accept responsibility for your actions.

Participation

All students are expected to participate in all class activities.

Homework

Students will be required to do some research for some projects outside of class.

Class time will be devoted to the actual editing of projects.

Projects

This class is project based. The students will be required to complete 8-10 projects. Each project will be completed using a school computer and each project will be saved in a digital format. The student will receive a written evaluation for each project.

Late Work

Students are expected to complete all of their work and turn it in on time. Turning in work after the due date will lose a percentage of the total grade. This grade reduction increases as the turn-in date gets later and later.

When to talk to the teacher

Students should see me if they do not understand something or if they are struggling to get all their work done. I will work with students to make a plan for success. Students can see me before school in room 16 or 30.

Teaching Practices:

Grading Practices

Projects comprise 80-85% of the grade. Behavior, attitude, and assignments connected to projects will make up the remaining 15-20% of the grade.

Grade Posting

I will post grades to School Center every two to three weeks.

Communication

I would expect the student to be the first to communicate needs or concerns to me. If this proves to be unsatisfactory then the parent can feel free to e-mail me or call me. My pone number and E-mail address are on the front of this handout.

Intervention

As project due dates approach, open lab time to complete projects will be available to the students before and after school. The days and times will be communicated to students in class.

Cut here---Cut Here---Cut here---Cut here

Equipment Responsibility

Students will be using the following equipment: video cameras, still photo cameras, computers, headsets, and external hard drives. Each student needs to handle all this equipment with great care. If a student displays carelessness that results in damage to equipment, the students are expected to pay for the damage.
