Course Objective: This semester of Junior religion will be focused on Morality. Students will study how to model their life after Christ. This course will enable students to understand Catholic moral theology and apply it to their lives. Through this course, students will be called to deepen their knowledge of the Catholic faith through reflection, prayer and reason.

This course and all its study material keeps in mind the ESLR’s of Notre Dame high School, which includes:

  1. Community Minded Catholic/Christians who recognize Christianity as a life-long growth journey of faith and seek to develop a Catholic worldview.
  2. Academically Prepared Young Adults striving for higher education and college bound.
  3. Effective Communicators and Collaborative Workers that can analyze, interpret, evaluate and synthesize significant concepts within various contexts.

Required Supplies:

Textbooks: 1. Our Moral Life in Christ textbook

2.  New American Bible

Materials: 1. Three Ring Binder 1 ½” or larger

2. Loose leaf lined paper

3. Black or blue pen for all assignments to be turned in.

Grading:

Binder: (notes/vocabulary/classwork) = 15% Homework: = 15%

Participation: =10% Quizzes: =10% Tests: = 25% Projects: = 10%

Final Exam: = 15%

Tests and Quizzes: Quizzes and tests will be given every week. Quizzes will cover what has been taught in class and over the previous nights reading. At the end of every Chapter, you will have an exam covering everything we completed. At the end of the semester you will be given a cumulative final exam. Tests and quizzes may be written, oral or any combination. Pop quizzes may be given at any time!

Class work/ homework: You will have daily class work and homework most nights All class work and homework will be kept in your Portfolio Binder. Portfolio’s will be checked at the end of the Chapter. Homework must be passed forward and stamped at the beginning of class everyday in order to receive full credit. No partially completed homework will receive full credit. A readmit is necessary to receive full credit on late homework. Homework is based on 100% quality effort. If homework is not completed on the day it is due, finish it and place it in the homework section of the binder to receive half credit.

Participation: Participation is extremely important and makes learning more interesting and exciting for all of us. I reserve the right to raise or lower your grade based on the amount of your voluntary participation. Participation includes: being in your seat when the bell rings, having all materials for class, following class instructions, involving yourself in class discussions and providing answers when asked. If you choose not to participate, your grade for the day may be lowered.

Absences: If you are absent you are responsible for all material that was missed. This includes sports related absences. Since this is a college prep course, if you are absent it is your job to go to quia.com and retrieve the necessary assignments and materials. Email me or call a reliable friend if further questions arise. In the case of absence because of sports, no extra days will be given for missing class and all assignments, tests and quizzes must be made up BEFORE leaving for the sport or you will receive a 0 on those assignments.

Make-Ups: If you are absent from a quiz or test for some reason other than a sport you must have a readmit in order to make it up. Remember, it is YOUR responsibility to make arrangements for a makeup exam. As well, you only have the amount of days absent to make up any work or exams missed.

Missing Materials: It is unacceptable to come to class unprepared. However, if you find yourself in class without paper, pens etc, DO NOT ask your neighbor. This is a distraction. Instead, come to the front of the classroom and you may rent a pen or pencil if necessary or buy paper when needed. (Money for rented materials will be donated to a worthy cause)

Rental Fees: 0.25 per pen or pencil 0.25 for 10 sheets of loose leaf paper

Hall Pass: Each semester you will be given 2 hall passes to be used at your discretion. You may choose to use them at any time of the semester in case of emergency. If you choose to use one, you must surrender it at time of use. You may not use anyone else’s hall pass without my signature. However, at the end of the semester, if both hall passes go unused you will receive 15 points extra credit! So save those hall passes! (hall passes only effective for extra credit upon the reception of the class procedures handout signed by you and your parents)

I undertand that all policies and procdures remain the same however, there have been changes made to the syllabus regarding the Grade Breakdown as well as the testbooks.
