Course Content

  1. The Catholic Mass: What is the mass? Why do we celebrate the mass? What are the most important parts within the mass? How do we receive the most out of our mass? How do you hear God speaking to you in the mass?
  2. Catholic Prayer: What is Prayer? What is the importance of prayer in our lives? Why do people pray? Why does God answer some prayers and not others? The traditional prayers: The Apostles Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Hail Mary, the Our Father, the Glory Be, etc.
  3. I…We:What makes an individual person? What is the connection between body and soul? What is personality? What does it mean to be part of a community? What are some of the traits and virtues that make a good community, great? What are some of the traits that influence good decision making? Evaluate a process for making a good decision. Evaluation of case studies on moral and ethical decision making.
  4. We believe in God: What is the bible? How do we interpret the meaning of scripture? What does “that” mean in the Bible? What is a covenant? What are the promises that God made to us in the books of Genesis and Exodus? How do we have faith in God even in times of uncertainty? What does it mean to put continuous trust in God?
  5. Advent: What is advent? What are we preparing for during advent, and how do we prepare during this time in our church?

  1. We believe in God the Father Almighty: Who is God? How does he show us love? What is the meaning of God’s love for us? What are the Ten Commandments? Evaluate case studies and determine which of the Ten Commandments were followed or broken.
  2. We believe in God…the creator of heaven and Earth: What does creation mean? How did God intend us to create? Evaluate the moral and ethics of our responsibility as humans to protect God’s creation from the ways our society uses the Earth* Review the Genesis unit of creation.
  3. We believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son..: Jesus, the human and the divine, who is Jesus? What are the titles of Jesus? Why did he go by so many different names? What does Jesus mean to our Catholic religion? What does Jesus mean to our greater society?
  4. We believe in Jesus. Our Lord:What are parables? Why did Jesus use them to teach his disciples? What are some of the parables of Kingdom of God that we can use as lessons to apply to our own lives?
  5. We believe in the Jesus…who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary:Who is Mary? Why did God choose Mary to conceive the Son of God? Why do Catholics ask Mary to pray for them, and have holy relics of her in their lives?
  6. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried:How do we view our relationship with Jesus and His sacrifices for us? What is Lent? Why do offer sacrifice, alms, and fast during the Lenten season?
  7. On the third day, He rose again. He ascended into Heaven. He is seated on the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead: What hope and faith did Jesus leave with us because of his resurrection? What is judgment? How do people place judgment on Jesus? In what ways does our society place judgment on others, and how can our society become better at understanding, compassionate and forgiving rather than placing judgment?
  8. Chastity Education: What is chastity? What does it mean to live a chaste lifestyle? What are some are the major misconceptions between the teachings of our Church and our society in relation to our sexuality? (separate curriculum in June requiring parental permission)
