  • The lesson aligned really well to the New York State standard, especially in areas of punctuation and capitalization.
  • This is important because there is a lot of punctuation and capitalization tested on the NYS ELA exam.

  • Looking at the congruency table, one suggestion would be to make lists instead of paragraphs. This would make the table easier to read and understand.
  • Make sure to include a performance indicator that lines up with your lesson.

  • Body biographies is an excellent introduction to verbs.
  • This lesson makes a great connection between biographies and verbs, linking past and present learning.

  • If time permits, maybe two half hour sessions would work out better than just one long session. Splitting up the lesson may help to keep student’s attention, resulting in increased knowledge retention.
  • One suggestion would be to allow students to assess each other’s biographies, giving students more practice with verbs

  • There were obvious improvements between the pre and post assessments.
  • Student improvement shows that this was an engaging activity and kept students attention.

  • One suggestion was to change the post-test to make it different from the pre-test. You do not necessarily have to change the content, just how the test is set up. For example, you can leave blanks and have students fill in the blanks for the post-test.
  • Maybe students can underline the verbs in their biographies. This is just another way to make sure they know the verbs in their sentences.
  • Make sure to include comments on the rubric sheet because the comments will help students to better understand their grades.
  • Maybe you can create an example of a developing and emergent body biography since there was not one in your class. This will help the reader and/or student to understand what developing, emergent, and distinguished looks like.

  • We love how students were able to tell about themselves in a creative way while practicing using verbs.
  • This lesson touched upon many different learning styles.
  • Students were able to make a real world connection to self.
  • The sorting verb activity was a fun way to assess students. They really seemed to enjoy playing the game.

  • We think it might be a good idea for studentsto start the lesson by talking about verbs they already know and then act them out.

  • It was great that students who have OT were given an increased amount of time. You were setting your studentsup to be successful.

  • One suggestion would be to add an adaptation for content material on the modification table.
  • Maybe students could color a face, hand or smaller body so that there would be less coloring. This would help students who struggle with motor skills and allow more time for the writing aspect of this lesson.

  • We liked how students could look for pictures on the computer to help tell about what they like to do.

  • One suggestion is maybe students could type a final copy of their biography. This would give students practice with typing and technology.
  • When students present their biographies maybe they could create some sort of powerpoint.
