REGULAR SCHEDULED MEETING

JULY 10, 2017

MINUTES

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen met in Public Hearing with the following members Present: Mayor Demi Vorise, Alderman Brian Robinson, Alderman Clarence Wiley, Alderwoman Veronica Hill and Alderman Kirkland Anderson. Alderman John Carriere was absent. Also present were, Police Chief Hosea Anderson, Jacob Waguespack of Faulk & Winkler and Town Attorney Jerry Guillot.

Mr. Jacob Waguespack explained the millage roll-forward rates to the audience.

Due to no audience comments the Public Hearing was closed and the Regular Scheduled meeting was called to Order.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Vorise, followed by a roll call, the Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer led by Alderman Kirkland Anderson.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Councilman Jewell informed the Board that the request for bids for the new Council on Aging Building will be going out soon. He also explained a study was done for Iberville Parish in connection with a new bridge.

Mayor Vorise advised the Board that letters were mailed out to recover debts.

We are getting some responses from these. Mayor Vorise also explained to the Board that letters were sent to all residents outlining our ordinances for weeds, junk and dangerous structures.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: There were no audience comments.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A motion was made by Alderwoman Hill to approve the minutes for the regular scheduled meeting on June 5, 2017. Alderman Anderson seconded this motion and it was unanimously approved by the Board in attendance.

NEW BUSINESS:

A motion to adopt the Resolution No. 1 for the Adjusted Millage rate of 4.200 mills was made by Alderman Anderson. Motion seconded by Alderman Wiley and unanimously approved by the Board in attendance.

A motion to adopt the Resolution No. 2 for the 2017 roll-forward millage of 4.220 mills was made by Alderman Robinson. Motion seconded by Alderwoman Hill and it was unanimously approved by the Board in attendance.

Mayor Vorise informed the Audience and Board that the 2017 Fall Festival is tentatively scheduled for October 28th.

Mr. David Colson of PEC was absent but Mayor Vorise explained to the Board that PEC did an assessment of our streets. At this time we will be closing the ditch on 3rd Street and overlay the street.

Mayor Vorise informed everyone that our Annual Back to School Drive is scheduled for July 22, 2017. Alderwoman Hill and Alderman Wiley will be heading this function.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Mr. Jacob Waguespack of Faulk & Winkler presented a Financial Statement to the Board. He explained that our financials are in good condition at this time.

Mayor Vorise updated the Board on the pending projects at this time. She explained that the Walking Trail is under construction. She also advised everyone that the Town will be overlaying some of the streets in the immediate future.

Mayor Vorise commented on our Summer Enhancements events with the last one Painting with a Twist being a success. Our next event will be scheduled for next Friday, she advised everyone to check our website for complete details.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS:

FIRE: Chief Stanley Washington reported that his department had 8 calls in the month of June. He reminded everyone of the meeting Tuesday night.

MAINTENANCE: Utility Supervisor Lee Butler was absent.

POLICE: Chief Anderson a trying weekend with one commotion after another. Chief Anderson asked for the public assistance. He explained that the Police are not present at this times and we depend on the help from our residents.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

FINANCE: Alderwoman Hill informed the Board that our finances look good.

PERSONNEL: Alderman Robinson reminded the Board that we are one man short at this time in the Maintenance Department and applications are now being taken

UTILITIES: Alderman Anderson had no problems to report

STREETS, ROADS & DRAINAGE: BUILDING & GROUNDS: Mayor Vorise re-stated the overlaying of streets in the future.

BUILDING & GROUNDS: Alderman Wiley asked the Board to address Ronald Richard’s condemnation. Mayor Vorise explained that a third party was hired to handle these situations.

A motion was made by Alderman Wiley and seconded by Alderman Robinson to go into Executive Session. Motion was approved by a unanimously vote of all the

Board in attendance.

A motion was made by Alderwoman Hill and seconded by Alderman Wiley to exit Executive Session. Motion was approved by a unanimously vote of all the Board in attendance.

It was explained to Mr. Richard that his condemnation hearing will be tabled until we hear from the engineering firm if the building is safe.

There being no further business, Alderman Wiley made the motion to adjourn, motion seconded by Alderman Anderson and unanimously approved by the Board in attendance.
