CMS-SCA SCIENCE FAIR 2017-18
Dear Parents:
CMS-SCA is proud to offer our 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade students the opportunity to be a Scientist on CMS-SCAScience Fair Day on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
We would like to encourage you to assist your child as he/she selects, investigates, and reports on an appropriate area/branch of science. But, the final project should reflect your child's individual effort and design, not your perfection!
The Science Fair is an opportunity for students to engage in and learn the scientific process by completing and presenting a scientific project. Please remember that all science projects must be in the form of an experiment, which will show the use of the Scientific Method throughout it. The projects will be judged based on the students’ application of the Scientific Method during the experiment, and their ability to describe to the judges the different steps undergone. Demonstrations, models and other materials used during the course of the experiment are welcome and encouraged to be brought to the Science Fair, along with the written portion of the project (preferably on a poster-board). New this year is that the students are performing experiments in their science classes that use the same thought process as these science fair experiments.
While you are assisting your child in selecting a science topic of his/her interest, please keep in mind the following restrictions. Although the items below are not allowed at the fair, the experiment may be done at home, recorded by pictures and/or video, and displayed at the fair.
- NO animals
- NO bodily fluids
- NO perishable foods
- NO microorganisms, fungi, or mold
- NO large aquariums with water
- NO dry ice
- NO dangerous chemicals
- NO open flames
- NO lasers
Your child’s effort to prepare and present a science project will be a valuable experience. Every participant will
-learn more than one science facts and how it works in real world
-improve their conversation skills
Just remember, the real goal of the science fair is to stimulate the children’s curiosity about the world of science. Awards for participation and top-3 in each grade will consist of science-themed prizes.
