About Child Development Institute

Child Development Institute (CDI) is a leading children’s mental health agency in the City of Toronto offering a range of services to approximately 3,500 children ages 0‐12, youth ages 13-18 and their families each year. Our mission is to promote and support the healthy development of children and to strengthen the families and communities in which they live. We provide four streams of service to families in need: early intervention, family violence, healthy child development and specialized mental health services for children and youth with learning disabilities.

Position Summary

Child Development Institute is seeking an energetic Early Childhood Educator. This position reports to the Child Care Director & in their absence the Child Care Assistant Directors. An ECE is responsible for providing a safe and caring environment for children and for programming (the development and implementation of children’s programs in a manner that is consistent with CDI’s Early Learning Centres’ Curriculum, and Metro requirements) in a team teaching environment under the direction of the Director. Externally, an ECE will be required to be involved in customer and community relations. Internally, an ECE is expected to provide effective leadership towards the achievement of an excellent professional environment.

Early Childhood Educators understand the complexities of family life, relate in an exceptional manner with parents, always keep children a top priority and want their centre to be ‘the best’. They understand the key regulatory aspects of child care and can manage within these parameters. They have highly developed social skills and relate effectively to a wide variety of audiences. Preferred candidates will have prior experience in early childhood education. These positions may require flexible work hours. Positions are within the CUPE bargaining unit.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Early Childhood Education 2 year recognized College Diploma or University Degree

  • A registered member of the CECE (College of Early Childhood Educators)
  • 2 years experience as an Early Childhood Educator working with and programming for all age levels.
  • Experience working with children from diverse cultural/linguistic backgrounds
  • Sound Knowledge of child and family development, children with special needs and demonstrated programming skills
  • Demonstrated experience to work effectively as a team member
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Behaviour management skills
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent command of the English language both verbal and written
  • Valid First Aid Certificate and current Infant/Child CPR Certificate

Annual Salary: Grade 5

Salary Range: $35,246 - $39,111 (plus grants)
