REGISMANORSCHOOL – BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The school is situated in Milton Regis – an area just outside Sittingbourne, which has links going back to Saxon times. The school was constructed in the 1960s as a JuniorSchool and the original building has already been extended several times. In 1995 the school changed its designation to an all through primary school and now takes in children from age 3 to 11.

The local area has seen a large number of new housing developments and there are more developments planned. The school has traditionally been a two form entry school with a planned admission number of 60 children. For a few years the school suffered with a falling roll owing to the opening of another local school at Kemsley, but pupil numbers are now recovering and we are increasing the number of classes to 13 from September 2011.

The school has its own maintained nursery provision, an ICT suite and library. We have developed a substantial conservation area with a large pond and a school garden area to improve our outdoor learning environment. There are plans to create a new Passive Play area for September.

The school had an Ofsted Inspection in July 2011, the outcome of which was very positive with the school achieving a very strong and secure ‘Good’ grading with several outstanding features.

There is a higher than average number of children with special educational needs and we have a large team of TAs. All staff are encouraged to undertake continuing professional development and some TAs have studied to become teachers via the LEA/Christ Church College partnership route.

The school is proud of its extensive extra curricular programme and involvement in local community projects and sporting and creative opportunities. There are close links with the Salvation Army, local church, and other community services. We employ a part time Family Liaison Officer who is able to support children and their families.

The school has been awarded Artsmark, Activemark, full Eco School Green Flag award, Healthy School status and an International School award . We are also the first school in Swale to achieve Kent Safe School accreditation for our anti-bullying work. Pupils have a School Council and also help to resolve friendship and playground disputes with active Trouble Busters, Buddies and Friendship Clubs. Children receive external training to support them in these roles.

There is an active PTA which organises regular events for the children and their families such as discos, film nights, quiz nightst, Christmas Fair and Summer Fair.

We are working hard to improve the school’s learning environment both internally and externally and to raise academic standards through a variety of initiatives.

Staff are very friendly, supportive and welcoming and work closely together as a team.

The school became an academy on June 1st 2011, as part of Westlands Academies Trust and this is an exciting time for the school as we move into a period of close cooperation with a an outstanding secondary school and another local primary of similar size.
