Minutes/Notes
- Jim Coon called the meeting to order at 9:00 am.
- Jim Coon noted attendance on the attached document, and those marked with an “X” attended the meeting.
- Jim Coon asked if there were any edits/changes to the Region 3 Minutes/Notes of May 08, 2014 Meeting. Hearing none, the minutes as recorded on the attached document, remain in effect.
- The goals of roundtable meetings were listed on the agenda, as follows:
- Provide general updates and briefing on regional and state initiatives.
- Update and discuss regional professional development.
- Conduct monthly coordination and follow-up for transformation districts
- Conduct monthly coordination and follow-up to regional and district activities.
- Communication, from regional roundtable members to/from agency roundtable directors.
- Jim Coon, and other team members, provide updates on the following regional and state initiatives:
- The Region 3, July 10, 2014 Roundtable Meeting has been cancelled due to summer institutes and summer vacations. The next meeting will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 and all subsequent meetings will be held on the 3rd Friday of each month, as listed under agenda item VIII of these minutes/notes.
- The Home-Base Overview/Training Session for Charter Schools in Region 3 will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at East Wake Academy High School. Information about this session was shared and discussed.
- The Region 3 Summer Institutes 2014 to be held on July 9-10, 2014 at Rocky Mount High School, Nash County, 1400 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mounty, N.C. 27803. Information on this institute was shared and discussed.
- RttT No-cost Extension for 2014-2015 and the close-out process was mentioned.
- The Governor’s Teacher Network Process for 2014-2015 was outlined.
- The General Assembly Bills on the Common Core Standards in North Carolina was clarified.
- The Senate proposal to make a 30% cut to NCDP in 2014-2015 was clarified.
- The “official” NCDPI definition of “Formative Assessment” was shared as follows:
Formative assessment is a process used by teachers and students during instruction that provide feedback to adjust ongoing teaching and learning to improve intended instructional outcomes. (CCSSO, FAST SCASS, 2006).
All NCDPI Staff members were asked to sue this definition when discussing this matter with any and all professionals in the field.
- Greg McKnight discussed the CCRESA Calendar for 2014-2015, which included the DPI training sessions within Region 3 for the ensuing school year. A chart outlining these events was distributed and Jim Coon mentioned the considerable reduction in RttT Funding to CCRESA (from @ $260,000 to @ $64,000) for 2014-2015 and the impact of such.

- Jim Coon noted that the future Region 3 Roundtable Meeting Dates from August 15, 2014 through December 11, 2014, to be Held on the Third Friday (starting August 2014) at CCRESA, Suite 104, 7208 Falls of the Neuse Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27615 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, were listed on the agenda as follows: (F)August 15, 2014; (F) September 19, 2014; (F) October 17, 2014; (F) November 21, 2014; (F) December 19, 2014; (F) January 16, 2015; (F) February 20, 2015; (F) March 20, 2015; (F) April 17, 2015; (F) May 15, 2015; (F) June 19, 2015; (F) July 17, 2015; (F) August 21, 2015; (F) September 18, 2015; (F) October 16, 2015; (F) November 20, 2015; and, (F) December 18, 2015.
- Jim Coon adjourned the meeting at 12:10 pm.
