Record Number of Submissions
Inquiry into Billboards
A record number of submissions – more than 150 – have been made to the inquiry into Billboards currently being undertaken by the Standing Committee on Planning and Urban Renewal. The Committee will now consider all the submissions and arrange public hearings for later this year.
The number of submissions received by the Committeeis believed to be the largest amount ever received by an ACT Legislative AssemblyCommittee for a single inquiry. Although there are no historical records available, anecdotal evidence also suggests that the 115 submissions received by the Committee during the final day of submissions is unprecedented.
On the publication of the submissions the Committee Chair, Caroline Le Couteur MLA, said:
‘The Committee is energisedby theconsiderable contribution the Canberra community has made to this inquiry. Thesignificant number of submissions that the Committee has received will enablethe issue of Billboards in the ACT to be consideredfrom a number of perspectives. We are looking forward to hearing from many of the submitters at the upcoming public hearings.’
Ms Le Couteur also indicated that the Billboards inquiry was a perfect example of howmembers of the community can have their say on the issues that impact on their lives, and encouraged the ACT community to make submissions to the Committee’s other current inquiry, which is looking atmatters relating to housing in the ACT.This inquiry will be focusing on issues including housing affordability, housing diversity, land releases, housing developments and zoning with submissions closing on 31 October 2017.
In relation to the Inquiry into Housing, Ms Le Couteur said:
‘Like with the Billboards inquiry, the Committee is looking forward to hearing from a range of individuals and organisations regarding their views on these important issues. We strongly encourage anyone who has a view to have their say.’
