REGIONAL QUALIFIER (GOLF)
9-HOLE INDIVIDUAL STROKE PLAY COMPETITION
SECHELT GOLF COURSE
JUNE 17, 2012
RULES
· The player should be capable of playing independently and must be able to walk during the entire 9-hole round.
· Each player shall register by submitting a verified average or the most recent 3-4 scores over 9 holes (not on a par 3 course). These scores must be accompanied by the par for the course for each score.
The tournament committee will use these scores to establish divisions for tournament play.
HOUSE RULES
· Keep the play moving … try to aim for 15 minutes per hole. The coach will be responsible to keep the participants moving.
· Tee-off from the reds. Yardage from the red tees is 2,710 yards.
· If the ball lands on the fairway or first cut, play the golf ball as it sits, unless it’s in a divot or sunken irrigation track (this is fairly noticeable). If so, you may move the ball one club length away (but no closer to the flag).
· If the ball is hit into the rough, you have the option to play the ball as it is or move the ball one club length (preferred lie) – again, no closer to the flag.
· Lost ball into the rough is a one stroke penalty (maximum 3 minutes to look for the ball).
· Lost ball into hazard is a one stroke penalty.
· Lost ball into water hazard is a one stroke penalty.
o Hole number 2 – should the ball be hit into the water, next shot will be from drop zone.
o All other water hazards – new ball to be placed maximum 2 club lengths from where the ball went in.
· Out of bounds (white stakes) is a two stroke penalty. Take a drop from where the ball went out of bounds – maximum 2 club lengths.
· If in doubt, CPGA Rules of Golf are in effect.
Scoring:
· If an athlete has reached 10 strokes but has not yet reached the green, they are to pick up their ball. When it comes time to putt, they may putt after others have completed their turn. They will place their ball one club length away from the hole and mark an “X” on their score sheet. (“X” means 10 strokes or more).
· If, for example, the athlete is on the green in 8 strokes, let them putt the ball out, but mark an “X” for their score if 10 or more strokes.
· The accompanying coach will keep the scores for the participants and will be responsible to enforce the playing rules.
Ties:
· First place ties shall be decided as per Special Olympic Golf Rules. (Level 4 – Individual Stroke Play Competition, Section “D”).
General:
· Each player is responsible for providing his or her own equipment (clubs, golf bag, balls, tees and a pitch mark repairer.)
· Only for medical reasons, and at the discretion of the tournament committee, will a power golf cart be permitted. Pull carts will be provided without charge.
· The competition will be a modified shot-gun start and all participants and coaches must be prepared to start on time. There will be no late starts.
· Players will be placed in groupings of 3 athletes, accompanied by a certified coach, who is not to be a family member or guardian. We recognize that there may be a need for an athlete to be one-on-one with a coach. This is to be specified upon completion of the registration documents. In this case, a second certified coach may accompany the grouping.
· Family members/guardians are not to accompany the golfers along the course.
· Coaches should be providing minimal guidance during play – i.e. athlete should be aware of which clubs to use at tee-off, on green, etc. For difficult shots and where to place the ball, coaching help is permitted (i.e. if the ball is out of bounds, in a divot where it can be removed, or is unplayable.)
