College Charter

We want you to enjoy your time at College and for you to learn as much as possible.

We will:

  • Help you to reach your potential and to achieve your learning goals.
  • Find out what you want to do and help you to do it.
  • Make sure your lessons are interesting and enjoyable.
  • Give you help and support to learn.
  • Check with you how you are getting on.
  • Talk to you to make sure you get the most out of your time at college.

And we ask you to:

  • Take part in the College Induction activities and give us all the information we need
  • Be on time for all your lessons and tutorials – or let us know that you are going to be late
  • Treat other people with respect and look after College or other people’s property.
  • Follow the complaints procedure if you are unhappy with anything that happens at College
  • Switch your mobile phone OFF when you are in College

How the College Works

Facilities

  • College is open for Learners from 9:45am to 4:15pm
  • If you bring a packed lunch you will be able to eat it in College Restaurant, you can buy a meal and other snacks at College if you need to.

Organisation

  • The Principal is Wendy Williams. She is in charge of all the staff. The Tutors and Learning Support Workers will make sure that you get the most out of each session.

Who to talk to

  • You can talk to your Learning Support Worker about anything that is worrying you and if they can’t sort out the problem they will suggest that you talk to your Personal Tutor or College Nurse.
  • You will have a talk with your Personal Tutor regularly and you can mention anything that is worrying you then.

Complaints Procedure

  • If you want to make a complaint about anything at all you can always arrange to talk to the Principal, and if you want to, you can bring your advocate with you.
  • If you have a complaint but don’t want to talk to member of the College Staff, you can talk to an Advocate by ringing 01782 845584

College Policies

Health & Safety

  • The College has a Health & Safety Policy which is designed to make sure that nobody gets injured in any way and it is important that you understand your responsibility to keep yourself and others safe.

  • The College treats everyone fairly and we ask you to do the same.

Harassment and bullying

  • The College will not tolerate harassment or bullying of any kind. If you feel that you have been harassed or bullied in any way, talk to your Personal Tutor about the problem.
  • The College will not tolerate harassment or bullying of any kind and may ultimately result in the learner responsible having their service withdrawn.

Data Protection Act 1998

  • The College holds information about you so that it can support your educational progress effectively. The information will only be shared with other professionals when you have given your permission. You can ask to see a copy of the information by applying to the Principal.

General Information

  • If there is a Fire, you must leave the College using the nearest FIRE EXIT and then go to the College Car Park. You must not go back into the College until a senior member of staff tells you that it is safe.
  • If you are hurt or don’t feel well you must tell your Tutor or your Learning Support Worker straight away.
  • If you think that you have lost something you must tell your Tutor or Learning Support Worker straight away. If you find anything that is lost give it to your Tutor or Learning Support Worker.
  • Don’t bring anything valuable to College – in case it gets lost – and never leave your bag or other belongings unattended.
  • You must not smoke in College.
