Refurbished Mens' Changing Facility

Welcome Back!!!

While inactivity has been my main focus during the off season this has not been the case for some groups of TCBC members.

Between “putting the Club to bed” in September and getting everything back in place for Opening Day in April there has been much done at the Club.

Through that time the Greens have still to be tended and the small group that see to this exhausting task have continued to work hard. Thanks to them. I am sure there are openings for more volunteers even if you can only spare an hour or two during the week. See Pete Hutchins or Eric Devonport if you can help the Club in this area.

Refurbished Mens' Changing Facility

Another major task has been the refurbishment of the Mens' Changing Rooms which have been transformed from two separate rooms, one for home players and another smaller room for visitors, into a smart single unit for all male players. The existing lockers too have been refurbished and additional ones purchased.

Thank you to Cyril Blacker for his work on this project.

As the off season has provided the opportunity for additions to the Club it has sadly also seen the loss of a stalwart member, John Perrett.

He was a major contributor to the Club. Sometimes in prominent roles but also often in quiet ways that were almost unnoticed. Trimming grass verges, picking up litter, compiling steward duty rotas and organising locker allocation and keys to name but a few.

In his memory Val has donated a much needed clock for the exterior of the clubhouse. I am sure that on each occasion we look at it we will all remember “Gentleman John”.

Also departed and missed by their friends at TCBC are Bob Bell and Beryl Smith. RIP.

Opening Day

The Club officially opened for play on Saturday 22nd April.

We were blessed with a dry day and even saw some sunshine on occasions.

The traditional rolling of the silver Jack was performed by Val Perrett and a “spider”, won by Clive Geach, was followed by a roll up.

The winners of chocolate bars were Jenny Corps, Elwyn Lewis, John Sayer and Jim Pettigrew.

Sponsors

Renaissance continue to sponsor the Club and we have benefited from two members buying properties from their retirement development. Thank you for your support. Below is NOT one of the purchasers!!

New sponsorship has been received from Paignton Flat Roofing and we welcome their support.

New Members

Continuing on the welcoming theme, we are pleased to see the return of some ex-members and hope that they and new members enjoy both the bowling and social aspects provided by the Club.

New members are still being recruited and so far two Open Day sessions have been completed. Hopefully we will add to our membership. There are now two more Open Days on the 6th and 7th May. Please encourage friends, relatives or anyone else to attend!

Please Sign Up

As always we have a large commitment to friendly matches against touring Bowls Clubs so please check your diaries to see when you can play in these fixtures. The more people that sign up with their availability the easier it is for your Captains, below, to select teams.

Also

Keep an eye on the noticeboard outside the Clubhouse for information about Social functions. These are well prepared and executed events and places are always in high demand. The first social is on Sunday 21st May at 12:30pm for 1pm. What is it? Could be Bangers and Mash.

On The Jack

You can help give a broader view about what is happening at the Club by submitting pictures and editorial for publication. League teams for example. Why not take a photo before your first match so we know who is representing us and even take some “action shots” during matches? On these occasions or at other times in the Club, what has happened for our information or even amusement?

Your contribution would be appreciated.

Towards the aim for being relevant and up-to-date, Mick Cox has volunteered to help with a News At TCBC department.

To contact him please send your submissions to for the attention of Mick Cox.

Deadline for next issue is:- Saturday 27th May.

You Know When It's The Outdoor Bowling Season

It wasn't the first day of rolling up for the MDL teams but Tuesday 25th April was close to it. So, consequently the weather behaved, or misbehaved appropriately.

Notice the wet weather gear and warm clothing. Welcome back to the summer bowls season.

Some were hardier than others. Some were, however, sensible and called it a day after a few ends. The Bar was opened rather quickly.

New Sign

This says it all...

Spring Fair

Saturday 13th May is Spring Fair day. It starts at 10am in the Clubhouse.

Donations of items for sale and raffle would be greatly appreciated.

Century Draw

Prize monies have been increased this year. 1st prize is now £45, 2nd and 3rd remain at £20 and £10.

April winners were:

1st - Mike Nicholas (nice way to return to the Club!)

2nd – Monica Morrison

3rd – Margaret Hackett

Finally, for now.

Have a great season at the Club. Enjoy your Bowls at whatever level, enjoy the friendly social atmosphere that is engendered and, lastly, tell us about it.
