How does one become a teacher or helper in the Children’s Ministry?

Since children are a high priority to us, the Children’s Ministry has developed the following process in order to become involved. Please note that in order for a volunteer to be placed in direct contact with our children they have to go through the following steps…

1. Fill out an application. Included in this application are questions regarding your commitment to Christ, beliefs regarding some key doctrines, references, etc.

2. Complete Orientation

3. Pass the National, State, and County Background Check

4. Take photo

What will my child do during his/her time in the Children’s Ministry?

Grow in Christ, Have Fun, and Be Kept Safe as you enjoy the teaching of the Word in the Sanctuary. Since children do better when there is consistency their teachers are with them for one quarter. We also strive to keep the flow of class similar each week.

Can I stay with my child?

Yes! Parents are encouraged to stay with their children, especially if the child is having difficulty adjusting to their new environment. We encourage siblings to join their age appropriate classes rather than remain with a younger brother or sister.

How are children placed in a class?

Our classrooms are divided by age up to 5 years old, and by grade, beginning with Kindergarten. This allows the teachers to more effectively minister to your child and his/her specific age group. We “promote” children into the grade level during mid summer. We “promote” toddlers into the next age level on their birthday.

How are children dismissed from class?

Children remain in class until a parent comes to pick them up.

How is a child disciplined if he/she misbehaves?

We will make every effort to be fair and consistent in our discipline of a child. We train all volunteers to look at misbehavior as an opportunity for discipleship. Corporal punishment or harsh words will not be used at any time to correct the child. The teacher will handle problems that arise in the classroom by following our 3 step procedure. Misbehavior is addressed with a reminder of the classroom rules. If change is not made the child is then given a logical consequence. Lastly, if the misbehavior continues and the child does not respond with appropriate behavior, a red cone is then placed in the hall notifying an usher to retrieve the parent for dismissal. Please be assured that our goal is to place the child back in class and participating as quickly as we can!

Can I help?

If you would like to get involved, just drop by the office, and pick up an application. As soon as you fill it out, leave it with us, and we’ll get the process going.
