The Colorado Outward Bound School operates in the remote wilderness areas of Alaska, Colorado, Ecuador and Utah. Staff are responsible for the safety and educational experience of novices (ages 12 to adult) on all lengths of expeditions from 1 to 81 days. Programs are demanding for staff and students alike.

Many courses include technical activities such as off trail travel and navigation, mountaineering, ropes course work, rock climbing, canyoneering, whitewater rafting and backpacking. These activities are used as catalysts for personal enrichment and group development. Instructors must have an appropriate blend of technical outdoor skills, teaching skills, and interpersonal skills for this position. Most programs primarily serve youth and young adults (ages 14 – 18).
