SCOPE

This procedure details the methods to be followed for the receipt and issue of drawings on site. The procedure also gives a checklist to be used for checking drawings received.

RESPONSIBILITY

The responsibilities of the designer, RE and Engineer are detailed in the following flow diagram.

INSTRUCTION

There are separate flow diagrams for:
·  Receipt of drawings on site
·  Site issue of drawings to contractor
·  Return of superseded drawings to engineer.
Note: For Part-time site supervision only
Where referred to the RE it is implied that the Engineer will be the responsible party.
NOTES:
Note 1: / A site instruction may be used instead of a transmittal note.
Note 2: / Write comments on the drawing in question with brief notes on the transmittal.
Note 3: / Ensure that the appropriate “action” and “delivery method” blocks are correctly indicated.
Note 4: / A site instruction may also be used instead of a transmittal note.
Checklist / (a) / Purposes of check
To ensure that the drawings received match the transmittal note details, that the drawings are superficially technically correct and that the drawings are suitable for dispatch to the contractor.
(b) / Detail to check
(i) / Transmittal note:
That the detail on the transmittal note matches the received drawings.
(ii) / Each drawing:
·  Title block for correctness and that the required signatures, dates, titles, scales and drawing number are filled in (a Pr Eng must sign each drawing).
·  That the drawing is not defaced, torn or badly damaged.
·  That the revision number, where applicable, is the next consecutive number to that currently issued and that a revision has appropriate notes in the revision block of the drawing.
·  Do a superficial check on the drawing to look for obvious errors and clashes with existing services / other services from other drawings.
·  Check that the referenced SABS documents are not superseded documents.
(c) / Reject any drawing which does not comply with b(i) or b (ii) above, and return same to the designer.
