Tai Chi is an exercise system for body and mind that originates from martial arts in ancient China. Some traditional forms of Tai Chi are strenuous, but Tai Chi for Health is a set of slow, gentle movements devised by Dr Paul Lam, in consultation with Tai Chi and medical experts. They are modified to be suitable for people of all levels of movement ability and fitness. Easy to learn, Tai Chi for Health builds physical flexibility, strength, and balance. It improves concentration and calms the body and mind. The sets are fun, energising and can help relieve chronic pain. They can be done seated or standing.Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention (TCAFP) is the best-known set of TC for Health. Medical research has shown it significantly improves flexibility, strength and quality of life for people living with arthritis and other conditions such as Parkinsons. It improves balance and helps prevent falls.

TCAFP Part 1 is a great beginner’s set even for people without movement restrictions. Part 2 is suitable for people seeking a more advanced set. Cost: First session free, then $10 a class, or $8 a class if paying by the term.

Instructor: Margaret Sullivan (Certified Tai Chi for Health Group Leader.
