Family Store Volunteers
Our Family Thrift store is in need of volunteers Monday – Saturday from 9am to 6pm Monday – Saturday to assist in sorting, hanging and racking clothes, unloading donations, restocking books, etc. It is our only year round weekend opportunity, so it is great for those who have to work or go to school during the week. All profits from the Family Store are used to support our Transitional Housing program for men, women, and families as they transition from homelessness to self sufficiency and standing on their own two feet again!

Red Shield Kids Club After School Program (Aug – May)
Having the privilege to not only touch the lives of youth, but to create a foundation of support, stability, encouragement and investment, has implications that cannot even be measured. We need those with the heart to reach out and to love the youth of the Magness Potter Community Center.
During the school year,we are looking for volunteers to help with the after-school tutoring program for ages 6-12, M-F 3-6 including: · Daily homework help · Help in the computer lab.
To support and invest in the youth of today will truly be an investment in the future and have amazing implications for which you can be the difference.

Red Shield Kids Club Music Program
We are in need of musically inclined volunteers to assist in teaching and tutoring our future musicians! It is Nashville, so I know at least some of you have some music talents you'd love to share with our kids!
The Volunteer Music Instructors must be:
- at least sixteen-years-old, and be able to work well with children
- someone who can read music, with being able to write music a plus!
- Playing one of the following instruments is a plus: Guitar, Piano, Drums, or Saxophone
- available early evening from 4 to 6 pm for a minimum of 2 to 3 days per week. Additional day time hours will be available during the summer months.
- must be able to pass a background check, and take a 45 min online training course in their own time.

Food Pantry Assistance
We restock our shelves on Fridays from 9am to noon. No specific commitment required. Must schedule shift ahead of time.

Soup Wagon
Nothing to do on a Friday night? Join us and provide a meal to the hungry! The Salvation Army provides a warm meal to over 150 people every Friday night. We meet at 5:30 p.m. and finish up around 7:30 p.m.

Seasonal Opportunities:
Angel Tree
Client Interviewers – Oct. 10 – 28
Volunteers are needed weekdays from October 10th through October 28th to assist in taking applications for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program. Families must be interviewed to determine whether they meet the criteria. Volunteers may also help organize the warehouse where gifts will be stored.
Shifts occur 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:30pm-4:00pm Monday through Friday, with an additional 5:30pm-7:00pm shift on Thursdays. We will provide either online or in-person training on the system used to take applications. We can have up to 20 people per shift.
Mall Booth Workers – Nov. 12 – Dec. 10
Volunteers are needed to staff The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree booths from November 12th through December 10th at CoolspringsGalleria, The Rivergate Mall, and The Mall at Green Hills. Volunteers will distribute angels from the Angel Tree, keep a record of who the Angel was assigned to, and collect the gifts as they are returned for each Angel.
Shifts are Monday through Saturday from 10:00am-2:00pm, 2:00pm-6:00pm, 6:00pm-9:00pm; and Sundays 12:00pm-3:00pm and 3:00pm-6:00pm. Two to four volunteers are needed per shift, depending on the date.
Warehouse Workers – Nov. 3 – Dec. 17
The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program has a need for both individuals and groups who can work at various tasks in our warehouse. Volunteers are needed November 3 through December 2, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (multiple shifts are available). Volunteers are also needed December 4th through December 17th, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (multiple shifts are available). Children ages 12 through 14 can participate with a parent. Children age 15 and up can volunteer by themselves. Spaces will be limited based on the date, and Saturdays do fill up months in advance.
Tasks may include:
– placing labels on Angel Tree tags;
– laying lines for family bags in warehouse;
– placing labels on family bags;
– organizing the Forgotten Angel Toy Store; and
– sorting gifts that are returned from the mall and placing in family bags – supplementing from our Toy Store as needed.
Special accommodations may be able to be made for younger children’s groups. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Distribution – Dec. 19-22
The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to assist in distributing the gifts to the Angel Tree families. The families will come to our warehouse beginning on December 19th and we need volunteers to assist in locating their gifts and helping them take the gifts to their cars. The shifts are 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. We need 40 people per shift.
Red Kettle Bell Ringers
Volunteers are needed to ring the famous Salvation Army bell from mid – Novemberthrough December 24th to help with one of our primary fundraising sources that supports our year round programs. Ringing the bell is a simple but impactful way of helping by collecting donations through the giving of your time and excitement of what The Salvation Army does to help lift our neighbors out of poverty and on to the road to self-sufficiency through our ministry outreach, Workforce Training classes, Youth Programs, and direct assistance with food and other necessities. We have locations throughout Nashville and surrounding surrounding counties, and have shifts available Monday – Saturday.
