Red Lodge Summer Race Camp

Red Lodge, Montana, USA

OVERVIEW.

The YC Summer Race Camp at Red Lodge is designed to be an intensive, skills-based Alpine program blending on-snow training activities with local off-snow recreational opportunities. Focus will be on developing a solid technical and tactical base in a fun and positive environment and on enjoying activities that showcase Montana.

Training programs will be individualized to meet the needs and goals of each athlete and will be in accordance with USSA development principles. On-snow training will consist of a blend of focused free-skiing, drills, drill courses, and gate training. Off-snow activities will combine training principles, conditioning, and fun.

Underlying principles of the camp are:

Skiing is fun!

Fun is fast;

Any turn, any ski, any hill, any day;

Top of the podium will be the best skier on the hill; and

Winning isn't everything, it's not the only thing, but it feels pretty darn good.

All ages, levels, and abilities are encouraged to participate.

TWINLAKES GLACIER & RED LODGE.

The TwinLakes glacier, located at Top of The World Pass in the BeartoothMountains, provides 600 acres of skiing at an elevation of 10,900 ft. with 1,000 vertical feet of lift-served terrain. The ski area is located in the Absaroka – Beartooth Wilderness Area; there are no lodge, restaurant, running water, or other facilities: it is in a primitive wilderness environment! Ski area management maintains a satellite telephone for emergencies; there is no other telephone service. Winter weather conditions and snow accumulations do occur every month of the year. The ski area glacier is located in Wyoming, roughly halfway between Red Lodge, Montana and Cooke City, Montana on US Highway 212.

The city of Red Lodge, population ~2,500, is located approximately 70 miles southwest of Billings, Montana, and approximately 70 miles northeast of Cody, Wyoming, at the base of the BeartoothMountains. It has evolved from a mining town to a great base location for backcountry wilderness adventures and is a popular stop for many heading into YellowstoneNational Park.

ATHLETE RATIOS.

Athlete to coach ratios will not exceed 12:1. The glacier is not large or heavily trafficked. Athletes will be under constant supervision and receive appropriate feedback on hill. Athletes will be supervised for off-snow activities.
