Year 2 (formerly cycle 3)
Requirements:
1) Book Study: “In the Trenches: In Search of the Counselor Within”
Year 2 new school counselors will conduct a book study that will be facilitated by the Lead Mentor. The year 2 school counselors are expected to 1) read assigned chapters prior to each meeting, reflect upon how the content is relevant to them, and complete the required assignment completion forms. The book study group will meet 5 times (once per month from October - March) for 1.5 hours each meeting time. Lead mentors will act as participants, maintain attendance and assignments. It is the responsibility of the protégé to complete all assignments and maintain worksheets for completion of book study. These assignments must be placed in portfolio binder.
2) Required Workshops:
September 23: Kickoff meeting
October 14: Classroom Management
January 6: Using Data to Drive Instruction
March 17: End of year wrap up
3) Required Observations:
Year 2 school counselors are required to video record 3 counseling sessions, classroom lessons,and/or meeting facilitations(one in the fall, winter and spring) and fill out video reflection/analysis sheets.
4)Work Samples:
Construct a portfolio to include student and/or school counselor work samples representing strategies you have implemented and their effectiveness for student success.
