Recruitment Procedures for Confucius Institute Scholarship (2014)

BA & MA degree programs in Beijing Language and Culture University(BLCU)

For the purpose of encouraging Chinese-language learners and teachers come to China for learning and research, Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban (hereinafter referred to as Hanban) launches a “Confucius Institute Scholarship” program to sponsor foreign students, scholars and Chinese language teachers to study Chinese in Chinese institutions. Based on the “Recruitment Procedures for Confucius Institute Scholarship (2014) of Hanban”, the Recruitment Procedures for Confucius Institute Scholarship (2014) of BA and MA degree programs in BLCU are as follows.

  1. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants recommended by Confucius Institutes in their home countries, who are interested in BA degree program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL) & MA degree program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL), should meet the following criteria.

1. BTCSOL

(1)non-Chinese citizens;

(2)students from Confucius Institutes in underdeveloped regions in Asia and Africa, who are interested in Chinese Language teaching;

(3)high school graduates, aged below 20

2. MTCSOL

(1)non-Chinese citizens;

(2)students from Confucius Institutes (Classrooms), overseas local Chinese language teachers, and excellent foreign college graduates majored in Chinese;

(3)bachelor degree or its equivalent, aged below 35 (Chinese language teachers in post shall be aged below 45)

  1. Scholarship Coverage

Scholarship winners are exempt from registration fees, tuition, fees for basic learning materials, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with a one-off resettlement subsidy, monthly living allowance, outpatient medical service and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China.

  1. application procedure

Candidates of BTCSOL or MTCSOL scholarship in BLCU shall submit the application documents to Confucius Institutes in their home countries, who shall examine the qualification and application materials of applicants, and then submit the materials of recommended applicants to the Admission Office for Foreign Students of BLCU before the deadline. Name list of successful applicants on the scholarship will be submitted to Hanban for final approval.

  1. Application documents

Applicants can log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website at set up an individual account, read information and introduction of host institutes and majors, complete and submit the Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form online. The following materials need to be prepared and submitted to the overseas Confucius Institutes.

1. BTCSOL:

(1) Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form(complete online and print out);

(2)photocopy of high school diploma (translated version in English or Chinese is needed if the original document is in other languages; graduating students should provide pre-graduation certificate);

(3)original copy of academic transcript in high school;

(4)photocopy of HSK certificate level 3 (no less than 180 scores) and HSKK certificate (at least 40 scores in HSKK intermediate level);

(5)a photocopy of the applicant’s passport;

(6)a photocopy of the applicant’s emergency contact person’s ID document;

(7)two reference letters from the applicant’s former teachers;

2. MTCSOL:

(1) Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form(complete online and print out)

(2)a photocopy of the BA degree diploma or certificate (translated version in English or Chinese is needed if the original document is in other languages; graduating students should provide pre-graduation certificate)

(3)original copy of academic transcript in college;

(4)photocopy of HSK certificate level 5 (no less than 180 scores) and HSKK certificate (at least 50 scores in HSKK intermediate level);

(5)a photocopy of the applicant’s passport;

(6)a photocopy of the applicant’s emergency contact person’s ID document;

(7)two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors;

(8)study plan (including personal information, learning experience, Chinese language proficiency, capability of research, study plan, and study aim, etc., no less than 800 Characters in Chinese );

(9)a written commitment stating that he/she will be engaged in Chinese language teaching for at least 5 years after graduation.

  1. deadline for application

All application documents should be submitted to the Admission Office for Foreign Students of BLCU by overseas Confucius Institutes before May 5, 2014.
