Vision/Aims

About City Gateway Alternative Provision

Since 1999, City Gateway Trust has been successfully providing vocational education and work opportunities to young people across Tower Hamlets and neighbouring boroughs. Drawing from its successful model of working to develop the ‘whole person’, City Gateway Alternative Provision (CGAP) opened its doors in 2012. CGAP has proved to be an incredibly popular choice for referring school aged and school leaver young people in Tower Hamlets, who had been unable to thrive within the mainstream educational model.

At CGAP, we exist to bring hope to young people aged 14-19, by working to develop the skills, confidence and belief, that will enable them to add long-term value to their lives, families and the wider community.

We do this by

·  developing their whole - personal, social and academic – skillset

·  realising their academic potential through achievement of stretching qualifications

·  securing destinations that add long-term value to their lives, their families and to the wider community

We will achieve this, through;

·  An alternative, creative and personalised curriculum offer that builds skills, qualifications and confidence

·  High expectations and levels of structure underpinned by a tailored coaching programme

·  Identifying progression pathways that are personally, socially and academically relevant to them as individuals.

Our success is down to the passion, skills and attributes of our team. We all share the values and commitment to ensure that we give every young person the opportunity, support and engagement to develop the skills, confidence and belief they need in order to recognise and realise their potential.

·  117,000 of 16-24 year olds are unemployed, of which 25% are economically inactive.

·  16% of 19 year olds have not achieved a level 2 qualification (equivalent to GCSE A-C) – vital for employment.

We fundamentally believe that the future prosperity and growth of communities lies within the realisation and significance of every young person’s potential.

That is why we are committed to ensure we continuously improve on our delivery model, so we can achieve the best future outcome for our young learners, through the realisation of their potential.

Our Vision

‘Future lives transformed through engaging and stretching alternative education’

Mission

‘To prepare and progress disadvantaged and disengaged young people, aged 13-24, in inner city east London and surrounding boroughs, into sustained education or employment.’

Ethos

We are non-religious and non-selective school. However our morals – ethical purpose – are aligned with a Christian ethos, to be inspired and guided to love our neighbours and to help those in society who are poor, excluded and in need.

We believe that we are at our best when we work to serve the whole community regardless of faith or background.

Values

What are our values and how do they relate to realising our vison?

Value - Love – to commit to our learners, colleagues and wider community, by showing love in a supportive, resilient and transformative way

Behaviours – Believe, Express and Beyond

·  Believe in the best and deal with the worst

·  Express love and care for each other

·  Go above and beyond to bring hope to our communities

Value - Cohesion – to foster cohesion amongst our learners and the wider communities in which we live, work and serve

Behaviours –Peace, Respect and Unity

·  Treat everyone with respect; build bridges and strengthen our community through celebration and acceptance of all, regardless of gender, race, faith, sexuality and disability

·  Foster unity; amongst all

Value - Integrity – to ensure our approach is learner focussed, always doing what’s right for them, in the right way and for the right reasons

Behaviours – True, Transparency and Honesty

·  Hold true to our values; ensure that we do what we say internally and externally

·  Strive for transparency at every level

·  Ensure honesty underpins all aspects of our work.

Why Work For Us

CG has seen rapid growth and change over the last few years and, due to the expansion of this curriculum area, we are looking to recruit a new Maths Class Tutor.

This is a unique time to join a new maths department at City Gateway Alternative Provision (CGAP) and will give you a very real opportunity to play an instrumental role in shaping our model for long-term sustainable success.

Our approach is not different because we want to be different, it is based on the fact that our approach continues to improve and transform the lives of many young people, for whom mainstream routes have failed

A role in Alternative Provision means that you are making an impact on the young people who need your expertise the most. Working in AP is unique: success is not solely defined by academic outcomes. We’re not defined by league tables as for some students we may have as little as 3 months to make an impact on their lives. We work best when the class sizes are small and support is tailored. The curriculum is evolving and refining to be the most beneficial to our young people. It’s a massively creative and developing area.

Your skills, strength and supportive approach is vital to ensuring success for our young people, who come to us with a number of challenges, that include amongst others:

·  Substance misuse

·  Neglect

·  School exclusion

·  Low academic starting points

Your innovation, solutions, experience and drive towards success will determine many more successful outcomes for young people.

Who We Are Looking For

City Gateway Alternative Provision aims are;

·  developing their whole - personal, social and academic – skillset

·  realising their academic potential through achievement of stretching qualifications

·  securing destinations that add long-term value to their lives, their families and to the wider community

We will achieve this, through;

·  An alternative, creative and personalised curriculum offer that builds skills, qualifications and confidence

·  High expectations and levels of structure underpinned by a tailored coaching programme

·  Identifying progression pathways that are personally, socially and academically relevant to them as individuals.

The majority of our young people need to develop in their maths academic skills and the vast majority join City Gateway without the requisite maths knowledge and qualifications to flourish in adult life.

Therefore we are looking for someone with ideas, drive and ambition towards success. The successful person will not be afraid to trial innovative ideas aligned to having the highest expectations of all students.

You will be someone who understands that to really impact a young person to develop their skills, confidence and belief we need to work with them holistically and develop them as a whole, not just academically. Though, you will also understand the difference that stretching academic and vocational goals can make for each young person.

You will actively embody our values and be able to show that through the application process.

This could suit a teacher who has had success in a challenging context looking for a new challenge in Alternative Provision or someone with a background in AP already.

Along with the relevant skills and experience you will be someone who works hard, is positive to be around, takes full responsibility for your work, is creatively solution focused and an encouragement to others.
