CLASS TITLE: STUDENT CENTER MANAGER/CLUB AND ORGANIZATION ADVOCATE

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Student Services Coordinator – Activities, coordinate the operation of facilities in the Oceanside campus Student Center and facilitate club and organization activities, budgets, purchase requests, and travel.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

1.  Provide day-to-day supervision of the Student Center; staff Student Center with student workers and supervise student workers; ensure a safe and welcoming environment; enforce college policies; coordinate work requests and maintenance needs. (E)

2.  Assist the Student Services Coordinator – Activities in evaluating Student Center programs and activities. (E)

3.  Plan and supervise selected student activities events including room set-up, cleanup, and logistical needs including tables, chairs, audio-visual equipment, podiums, and lighting.

4.  Assure that Student Center room use provides priority for students and student organizations.

5.  In collaboration with the Interclub Council Chair, monitor club and organization accounts and budgets. (E)

6.  Design and deliver oral presentations, training sessions and workshops for club leaders and club advisors. (E)

7.  Assist the Interclub Council Chair and club officers in developing club recruitment activities each semester; promote and publicize club and organization activities and events. (E)

8.  Compile statistics and conduct research to evaluate and report on club and organization activities.

9.  Attend all Interclub Council meetings.

10.  Coordinate print and/or electronic publication of student center activities and scheduling policies, calendars of events, and contact information for all clubs and organizations.

11.  Publish a Club Advisor Handbook, a Club Operations Manual, conduct club advisor orientation sessions, and arrange advisor recognition events. (E)

12.  Perform related duties as assigned.

Provide accurate information to students regarding club programs and services.

Collaborate on budget management.

Maintain records and prepare reports.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Meet schedules and timelines.

Work independently with little direction.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Provide training and leadership development. Work confidentially with discretion.

Prepare and deliver oral presentations.

Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability issues.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor's degree or equivalent and one year directly related experience in student services.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California driver license.

WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Not assigned permanent staff to supervise. Provides work direction to student workers and/or temporary staff.

CONTACTS:

Administrators, faculty, staff, students, other department personnel, public, vendors, parents.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Normal office and presentation environments. Subject to conducting work at a variety of locations on campus and in the community during evening and weekend hours. Occasional to intermittent standing, walking, bending and stooping; light lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing of objects weighing 25 lbs. or less. Ability to work at computer, including repetitive use of computer keyboard, mouse or other control devices;

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships involving interactions and communications personally, by phone and in writing with a variety of individuals and/or groups of individuals from diverse backgrounds on a regular, on-going basis; ability to concentrate on detailed tasks for extended periods of time and/or intermittently while attending to other responsibilities; ability to work effectively under pressure on multiple tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines and changing priorities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Primarily works in an office environment. Subject to frequent interruptions by individuals in person or by telephone, intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion. May work at any district location or authorized facility during day and/or evening hours with occasional evenings, and/or weekends on an as-needed basis. Occasional local travel may be requested.
