Recording and Saving a Clip in Camtasia 5.0

Step 1. Start the SMARTBoard Notebook Software

  1. Select SMART Board Software => Notebook Software
  2. It is important to set of the SMARTBoard window exactly the way you want to record it
  3. Plug your headset and microphone into your computer

Step 2. Setting Up

  1. Select Camtasia Studio 5 -> Camtasia Studio from the Start Menu
  2. New Screen Recording
  3. Make sure the Microphone radio button is selected and say "testing, testing" to
    make sure it is working
  4. Click on Select area to record

Step 3.Recording

  1. To start recording, click the Record button with the red circle beside it or pressF9. Everything you do and say will be recorded from that point on.
  2. Note there is pause recording button (F9) - this can be very useful if you need to change pens or simply think about what you are going to say next.
  3. To stop recording, click on Stop (or press F10).
  4. A screen will come up and your movie will be played back to you
  5. You can chose Save or Delete
  6. If you don't like your movie, press Delete
  7. You will be asked, Are your sure ..., click Yes (if you ARE sure)
  8. Start over again with steps 1 to 3
  9. If you like your movie, click on Save and go to the next section

Step 4. Saving Your Clip

  1. You will be asked to type in a file name - Type in your Topic Name replacing all spaces
    with underscores
    Make sure you know where this folder is located when you want to find it later.
    Write the folder location here: ______
  2. Now click on the circle beside "Produce my video in a shareable format", then click OK
  3. Click theCustom production settings radio button, then click Next
  4. Click on AVI - Audio Video Interleave video file, then click Next
  5. Click on Next again
  6. Click on the Preset video sizes (640 x 480), then click on Next
  7. Make sure that Embed Video into HTML is NOT checked at the bottom, then click on Next
  8. Make sure Include a table of contents with my produced video is NOT checked, then click Next
  9. Type in the Topic Name if it is not already typed in (remember no spaces)
  10. Select the same folder that you selected in step 1 above
  11. Make sure Organize produced files into sub-folders is NOT checked
  12. Make sure Play video after production is NOT checked
  13. Click on Finish
  14. Now you will have to wait a while - (depends on how long your clip is)
  15. After the clip is finished converting, click on Finish
  16. Go to the folder where your clips was saved (see Step 1 where you wrote this down)
  17. Find thefile with the .avi extension. This is the file you need to upload to
    the UOIT Math Teacher Tube
  18. Find file with the .camrec extension.This is the file you must copy to Windows Live
