Recording Academic Activity (Effective FA14)
General Information
· Please reference the Campus News email from Provost Whittaker delivered 8/4/14 for information.
· 68% of UCF faculty have used Webcourses/Canvas (available after logging in to myUCF)
· Activity is required of all UCF students in all class sections (excluding associated labs and discussion sections)
o Reporting affects disbursement of all federal financial assistance whether they actively have it or might have it.
o Reporting will not affect state and UCF funds, i.e. Bright Futures, UCF Top 10 Knights, etc.
· Recording academic activity must be completed during first week of class (during add/drop), and should be completed by Wednesday, 8/27/14
o Federal Financial Aid isn’t guaranteed to be dispersed on time if the student completes the activity late.
o Best practice to keep module “open” (in case there are FinAid issues and a student needs to take late)
· For those faculty not already using Webcourses, a “shell” is being created for all courses and should be available by Monday, August 11.
o If you are already using Webcourses for your classes, no additional webcourse environment will be created, you just need to identify and add the “activity” assignment.
· The Office of Financial Assistance is informing all students of this “activity” requirement.
· Need Assistance?
o See below.
o FCTL has personnel on call to assist faculty with setting up the required activity.
o Taking attendance manually? Contact FCTL/CDL and it must be recorded throughout the first two weeks to be in compliance.
o Multiple individual student sections (Ind Study, Thesis, Dis, Res, etc…)? Combine them in Canvas.
o The college is exploring access to pre-populate a faculty’s course with a stock “assignment” (to be determined). We hope to offer this service (only) to adjuncts and TAs teaching “L” sections at chair’s request.
· The university will no longer be requesting “Attendance Confirmation Requests” mid-term for withdrawn students.
· The F/I/U enrollment reporting (that occurs with final grade submission) will remain in place.
