In2015, the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test) began testing students on basic concepts in psychology and sociology, and will also test their critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills. At the current time, courses is psychology, sociology, and philosophy are not required for admission to medical school. However, they are strongly encouraged, and fit into the foundation curriculum requirements at East Carolina University.

Pre-Med students should obtain a pre-med advisor, in addition to their major advisor.
