Dr. Cristopher (Chris) S. Tang is a University Distinguished Professor and the holder of the Edward W. Carter Chair in Business Administration at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Dr. Tang served as a senior adviser to the President of National University of Singapore (NUS) and has helped transform NUS into a research-intensive university.

Recognized as a well‐rounded scholar in global operations management, Dr. Tang was elected as President of the Production and Operations Management Society in 2014. As President of POMS, he developed various initiatives including POMS Practice Leaders Forum and the Applied Research Challenge, to engage industry leaders. Chris was elected a POMS Fellow in 2011. He has served POMS in numerous roles over the years that include: board member, general conference chair, track co‐chair, judge on various award committees, and member of organizing committees. He has started a new initiative this year: the mentor‐mentee program.

Known as a world renowned thought leader in global supply chain management and operations management, Chris consulted with numerous global companies including Amazon, HP, IBM, Nestlé, GKN, and Accenture; taught courses at Stanford University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, National University of Singapore, MIT‐Zaragoza, London Business School, etc.; served as a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) at HKUST and Cambridge University; delivered over 200 keynote speeches and seminars at conferences and universities world‐wide; chaired numerous advisory committees at various universities in Asia (Hong Kong and China); interviewed and quoted by international press over 100 times; and served as board member for various nonprofit organizations.

Dr. Tang has published 6 books with Springer Publishers, 15 book chapters, over 100 blogs, and over 130 research articles (with over 12,000 citations on Google Scholar) in various leading academic journals, and written articles for the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Fortune, Los Angeles Times, Business Times, and The Guardian. He has received over 10 teaching, research, and service awards including the Neidorf Best Instructor of the Decade in 1999, UCLA (university‐wide) Distinguished Teaching Award in 2012, LaForce Faculty Excellent Service Award in 2013, Best Research Paper in Healthcare Big Data Analytics in 2014, KEDGE “20 years on” Research prize in 2017, and Salzberg Academic Award (for research contributions in Supply Chain Management) in 2017.

Dr. Tang’s research contribution in Global Supply Chain Management is recognized by all three major academic societies in the field of Operations Research/Management Science/Operations Management. He was elected as the Institute of Operations and Management Sciences (INFORMS) lifetime fellow in 2011, the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) lifetime fellow in 2011, and the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society (MSOM) lifetime fellow in 2015.

Dr. Chris Tang received his B.Sc. (First class honours in Mathematics) from King’s College, London, M.A (in Statistics), M.Phil (in Administrative Science), and PhD (in Management Science) from Yale University.
