HEAD TEAM MANAGER (MALE) REPORT
MASAKHANE 21 MARCH 2015
LESLEY WETHMAR
A big thank to all Coaches, Team Managers, Main Table Administrators, Weigh In Masters, Referees and Technical Officials for a successful tournament.
I have attached each groups completed weigh in form and results for the day so that points can be issued to the attending judoka.
I have received the individual Team Managers report and compiled it into one to make for easy reading – should you require any individual report, please let me know and I will forward it to you.
There were a few concerns on the day mentioned in the reports below but what all Team Managers from Group 1 and 2 did bring up was fighting the age groups together is both a concern to parents and judoka as the judoka are getting hurt by the older children. This is obviously a huge concern with S.A. Champs coming up.
I have not received a report for Group 4 Team.
We did not have a Team Manager for the Group 5 & 6 Combined Team – Josie was kind enough to step into that position on the day.

Hi Lesley
Attached is the final result sheets for my team.
I would like to mention following concern which I received from various parent in my team:
To Whom It May Concern
The tournament was a great success and all the parents would like to Thank the organisers and officials for their hard work.
A point of concern that was raised by my parents was that some of the kids had to fight kids an age up for the team selection and found this to be an unfair match and could be detrimental to the younger players. They understood that this would be all team selection including SA Schools and SA Open Team Event
Last year the players fought same age same weight which according to the parent gave much more confidents to the player participating. Your consideration in this matter would be appreciated.

Hi Lesley,
Attached please find the score sheet from Saturday. There is not a whole lot to report , all went well. The only complaint from most parents was the fact that the team only had one team to fight and that a lot of the boys didn't have a chance to fight because West Rand didn't have a full team. Let me know if you need anything else . And again thanks for all your help.

Most of the day ran smoothly, In total we had 4 rounds and won each round. We had to refight Tswani as the weights somehow got mixed up.
Our reserves both had a chance to fight, between the boys and Oscar they were all happy to let the reserves have a fight.
One parent was not happy with me that the reserve fought instead of her son for one fight but I told her it was the coaches decision which it was.
My one concern with mixing the age groups is that the younger boys have a big chance of getting hurt, a boy turning 11 at the end of the year could be fighting a boy who has turned 12 at the beginning of the year and that is a big age gap!! I think that needs to seriously be considered in the future.
The boys were all well behaved and very supportive of their team whether they won their individual fights or not. I was proud to be their manager.
Kind Regards

Hi Lesley,
Here is my report:
Felix arrived late so we had to make an arrangement to get him weighed in as the team had already weighed in.Our under 34 arrived very late and we were not able to get him weighed in so we used reserve, Brendon van Wyk.
Ruard’s parents were under the impression that he only had to be at judo at 12pm. They were working on COC times. Luckily they were able to bring him.
Parents need to read the communication in more detail. I did send out ansms the night before telling everyone that we had to weigh in between 7:30 and 8:30 the latest. But we still ended up waiting
Ruard got injured in round 4 and was advised by the Medic not to continue in the competition. This was the only fight he had for his weight group. His mother wanted to take him home earlier but we convinced them to stay.
I am a little concerned about the younger boys fighting the older boys. The older boys have got more experience behind them and I noticed that we had a few injuries on the mat due to this.
Why are we not allowed to fight under 11 and then also an under 12 group like at COC?
I hope that this is enough info but if you should require anything more please let me know.
Kind regards
Tiffany de Astui

Of the original team selected, Neo Mogase and KoketsoRammutla were unable to attend. The team did not have any reserves.
The boys worked really hard and won 3 of the 4 matches with very spirited performances. We ended third on a count-out, with WU (1st) and TJ (2nd) having accumulated more points on the day.
The boys competed with fantastic attitudes towards the sport and with respect for their opponents.
No serious injuries were sustained. Jayden van der Merwe hurt his foot but was able to continue in the competition.
Please can a message be sent to club coaches regarding strangulations. Some of the judoka do not protect themselves adequately against strangulations
Thanks must go to Paul Nothnagel for arranging to have LindoPhiri present to stand in for KoketsoRammutla and also to Jayden van der Merwe who stepped up from group 2 to perform admirably in group 3. Thanks also to Baxter Pollock who competed a weight group up to replace Neo Mogase so that we could pull Jayden van der Merwe in from group 2 into the U46 category.
To Sensei Oscar, thank you for standing in as coach for our first match whilst Sensei Basil was momentarily indisposed.
A big thank you to Lesley Wethmar for her organisation of the event. Well done.

There were 5 fighters in the Group 3 boys league for Joburg Judo B and everyone fought very well despite not having a full team.
There were no complaints and no injuries. No one was disqualified and the team worked well together.
The boys that fought were:
