Recognition Assessment Guide and Application Form

Advanced Coach Accreditation

Recognition Assessment Guide

What is a Recognition Assessment?

A recognition assessment is a process that allows you to show Gymnastics Australia (GA) that you already have the knowledge and skills to safely coach gymnastics. If you are able to show evidence of your coaching abilities, you can gain a Gymnastics Australia Coach Accreditation.

This process is also referred to as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competence (RCC).

How is prior learning and current competence recognised?

Each Gymnastics Australia coach accreditation level contains a set of competencies. A competency is a statement which states what you must be able to do. GA needs to know that you are able to consistently perform the competencies in the workplace, such as your club, school or gym. To be issued with an accreditation, you must be assessed as competent.

How do I provide evidence?

This application form guides you and explains the evidence required. In addition, you will be contacted by an accredited GA assessor who will discuss with you the evidence you need to provide to prove that you meet the competencies. Evidence can include:

·  Documents proving your previous training (e.g. overseas coach qualifications, university transcripts)

·  A certificate to verify completion of online training

·  A meeting with the assessor either in person or on the phone

·  An assessor watching you coach either in person or via a recording

There are many other forms of evidence types which are not listed above. The GA Assessor will work with you to determine relevant evidence to provide against each competency.

GA’s recognition process

There are 4 steps to the recognition process.

Step 1 – Make an application: complete the application form and send the form to GA

Step 2 – Assessment: a GA Assessor will contact you and discuss your application

Step 3 – Notification: the Assessor will advise you if you are competent of not yet competent

Step 4 – Appeal: you have the right to appeal the assessment decision

The recognition process is available in more detail on the GA website.

The competencies can be found in the table in the following pages under the heading ‘Course Module Title and Competencies’. You need to document your evidence in the column ‘Summary of evidence provided for each competency’ in the Competencies and Evidence Table in this application form.

·  Option 2: Assessment in the workplace

Request a GA Assessor to attend your workplace to assess you coach against the competencies. The competencies can be found in the table in the following pages under the heading ‘Course Module Title and Competencies’.

The Assessment in the workplace can take place at your Club or an alternative location. You can use one of your regular coaching sessions or create a session for the assessment.
