Signing In

All dancers should be fed, hydrated, and well-rested before arriving at the theatre.

Once they enter thedressingarea they will need to stay with their class and assigned parent(s).

Pre-Dance, Ballet/Tap combo, Creative Movement, Ballet I, and Ballet II Rehearsal Procedures

It is important that a parent brings their child to a designated parent or staff helper to ensure a smooth transition for the child. Hair should be performance-ready. There will be help available for those who need it. After you assist in costuming your child, you may then go quietly into the theatre and observe the rehearsal. It is very important that you are prompt as we will rehearse the bow first …so that they can be released as soon as they are done with their portion of the rehearsal. Parentsonly, please, at the dress rehearsal and please, no siblings. The theatre needs to be quiet as we run through the show. Only helping parents and no siblings are allowed backstage to allow enough room for performers to focus on their work and use backstage time for preparation. This is very important!

Costumes/Headpieces and Shoes

Please ONLY allow your dancer to bring water and snacks/food that are CLEAN (crackers, pretzels, etc). You are responsible for your own tights, shoes, hair & makeup. Do not forget your shoes!!! The shoes should be clean leather or canvas and must fit properly. No “slipper-style”shoes. Also, all of the dancers’belongings should be labeled with a name.

Tights

All ballet dancers and dancers who have tights for their costumesmust have a new pair of pink ballet or the designated color (tan or black)tights! Keep this pair with their costume. No shiny or run tights allowed!Revolution brand, Prima Pink ballettights may be purchased at Harbor Dance.

All dancers: Please do not wear undergarments under your tights and costume. They bunch up, ruin the lines of the costumes, and draw focus. Tights are considered underwear. Level IV & V dancers must have a nude -colored leotard.

All performers: You must be neat, orderly, and extremely quiet backstage. After dress rehearsal and the performance you must pick up after yourselves. This is mandatory.

Hair

Please prepare all ballet dancers’ hair in a formal ballet bun at home. All ballet buns should be placed at the crown of the head, gelled and hair-sprayed. Please secure bun with hair nets and as many bobby pins as are necessary to keep it secure for the entire dress rehearsal and the performance. Hair clips, bows and ribbons are not allowedif not part of the costume,as they interfere with head pieces. Head pieces must be secured with criss-crossed bobby pins!

Makeup

For the younger dancers, lightly apply blush/rouge and a brownish-red lip stain/stick after they have their costumes on. Eye brow pencil can be used for those that have very light eyebrows, but no mascara.

All older performers - No “over the top” garish makeup please. Please have a final check of your make up with Miss Kristine at the dress rehearsal.

Performance Equipment Needed

All performers: Please make a checklist of all equipment needs: tights, shoes, hair pins, safety pins, hair nets, hair spray, make-up, needle and thread.

Younger dancers: please have all extra items in a zip lock bag with your name on it.

Other Rules

VERY IMPORTANT: ONLY DANCERS WHO HAVE ACCOUNTS PAID IN FULL WILL BE ALLOWED TO PERFORM AT THIS YEAR’S RECITAL.

No jewelry of any kind is allowedunless specifically approved/requested by the instructor.

No nail polish

No chewing gum

No eating or drinking backstageexcept for water, and clean dry snacks such as pretzels.

Water only is allowed in dressing rooms

Absolutely no eating or drinking once you have your costume on (except waterand dry snacks).

All performers are to remain in their dressing rooms until they are called.

Please NO DADS pick up their daughters from the dressing area, as there will be girls changing.

Attention: Cameras and camcorders will not be allowed. There will be no photos or filming allowed during theperformances. No exceptions! Please adhere to this rule as it can be distracting and dangerous to performers and disrespectful to other audience members. This is a very standard theatre rule. There WILL be candid photos, professional photos, and a DVD of all shows available for purchase for recital.

Note: The stage will not be used for private photographs prior or after rehearsal or performances.

Flowers

Flowers are available by pre-ordernow at the front desk for pick-up in the lobby of the theatre. (It is an important gesture for all performers to receive flowers after their show.)

Volunteering

Parent helpers need to attend the studio rehearsal on June 11th as well as the dress rehearsal on June 17h. Volunteers will be responsible for keeping track of children, lining them up for performance and curtain call, taking them to the bathroom, and keeping them quiet and amused with books, drawing materials and quiet games. Simone will have detailed descriptions of groups you will be in charge of and how to get them ready available at the in-house studio rehearsal.

Final Notes:

Students will be able to observedress rehearsal AFTER they have been on stage. They will not, however, be able to watch the recital performances, as they will need to remain in costume for the curtain call. Supervision and activities will be provided for all the young dancers backstage at all times.

Another Final Note:

We realize there are many rules here to digest and follow, but these rules are absolutely necessary to ensure a smooth professionally-run performance. When dancers know what to expect it is much less stressful for them. Countless hours have gone into this show and we need every dancer and parent to do their part.

Thank you to all parents, grandparents, and guardians! None of this would happen without your help and support! Special thanks for the volunteers who make these shows possible.
