Receptionists – Buckingham Community Hospital

Volunteer Role description

This role will provide valuable support to the reception and administration teams within Buckingham Community Hospital.

The volunteer will support the staff receptionist in providing a first point of contact for visitors, patients and staff, both in person and on the telephone.

The volunteer will play an integral part in providing a good patient experience.

Time Commitment: One or more morning or afternoon sessions (Mon. – Fri.) for a minimum of 6 months.

Key Tasks:

  • Liaise with the reception team at the beginning/end of sessions to receive/hand over information.
  • Provide a friendly welcome to patients at what can sometimes be an anxious time.
  • Confirm patients’ attendance on clinic sheets.
  • Show patients to the correct waiting areas allocated for outpatient clinics.
  • Answer telephone enquiries and give information relating to parking, visiting times etc.
  • Restock office supplies as necessary.
  • Liaise as required with Patient Transport Service to arrange transport for patients.
  • Identify meeting room locations for visitors attending the site for meetings.
  • Issue receipts for deliveries.

  • Physically fit; able to stand/walk for 3 hours
