Reception Newsletter Friday19th May 2017
Reception’s “Talk 4 Writing” focus has been to retell the story of the three little pigs using a story map and hand gestures. We have acted it out, we made stick puppets to retell the story, we have built dens in the garden and we drew our own story maps.
We counted down 21 days to our eggs hatching. On Monday the chicksstarted to peck their way out of the egg! In Rowan class we have 7 chicks and in Silver Birch class we have 9 chicks. We have been looking after them by keeping them warm, feeding them and giving them water to drink. Everyone held a chick gently in their hand.
The sunflower seeds have started to grow. They have grown into little seedlings. The seedlings are very delicate and they are beginning to flop over. They will need a stake or some sort of support to hold them up.The children will be taking them home so they can grow them in their garden. Please make sure the stem does not break because then it will stop growing.
In class we have been investigating different ways we can find out about things we do not know about. We have talked about using books and the internet to help us. If you have any questions that you want anwered please let us know because we can try and find the anwers in school.
ESKA Karate club came to our school to give a free half hour taster session. We had a great time learning some of the moves. If you would like to find out more about the classes their website is:
In phonics we are making sure we know all the letters and sounds really well so that we can say them say quickly. We are learning to read and write words in simple sentences. This will help us to become very good readers and writers.
In Maths we have been learning all about teen numbers. We are learning that the number one in the front is a ten and the second number represents the number of ones. For example, the 15 consists of 1 ten and 5 ones 10 and 5.
26 is 20 and 6.
34 is 30 and 4.
At home, you could:
- To read and enjoy traditional tales.
- Grow you sunflower in your garden and see how tall it grows.
- Think of things you want to find out about. Bring your questions to school so we can find the answers.
