Compliment Party

We have been working hard this year to earn compliments. We have reached our goal and will celebrate with an ice cream party next Friday. I will supply the ice cream and paper goods, but would appreciate topping donations (Sprinkles, whip cream, cherries, M&Ms, Peeps, Gummy Bears, etc.) NO NUTS PLEASE. Donations may be dropped off any day next week.

In Our Classroom

Reading:This week we continued reading My Brother Sam is Dead. Students explored point of view/perspective by creating a Keynote presentation detailing how different characters in the book viewed the same object or situation. Next week our reading comprehension skill will be PREDICTING. Students will use text clues and their own personal experiences to make a reasonable guess about what will happen next in the novel. As a reminder, the project for the novel is due Thursday, April 21st.

Math: This week we used estimation and number sense to predict the relative size of decimal products and quotients. Students also learned different strategies for solving decimal multiplication problems. Next week we will discuss dividing decimals.

Language Arts: This week we reviewed for and took the Unit 3 Grammar test on VERBS. Our poetry focus was on Cinquain poems. Next week we will explore adjectives, adverbs and quatrains.

Social Studies (From Mrs. Sweeney):Students completed their American Revolution Time Line Booklets, ending our Unit on the Revolutionary War. I am very proud of the students' hard workand look forward to reviewing their bookletsover the weekend. Students learned about the Articles of Confederation and the many difficulties of a new nation. Next week, students will learn about what the founders decided about the new government and the meeting of the Constitutional Convention.

Science (From Mrs. Sims): We completed a Cells Quiz on Monday, and continued classification of living things by looking at the classification system created by Carl Linnaeus (binomial nomenclature) and understanding the categories: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species. We referenced the classification of several living organisms, and are moving toward comparison of species. Next week, we’ll take a closer look at animal classification.
