Confirmation: Due to a problem in his lower back which is aggravated by standing and walking, Bishop Bill Murphy regrets that he will have to limit his involvement in the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. He has asked the Vicars Forane to assist and they have kindly agreed. This is nothing new or unusual and has been happening in a number of dioceses for some years e.g. Dublin, Kildare and Loughlin, Limerick, Waterford and Clogher. As a result of this Dean Seán Hanafin will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation in our parish of Ballymacelligott on Friday, 2nd March 2012. This Mass will begin in St. Brendan’s Church, Clogher, at 2.00p.m.

Choir Practice: In preparation for Confirmation, just under 2 weeks away, there will be a choir practice Tuesday evening from 7.30 – 8.30pm in Clogher Church for both Ballymac & Clogher members. We would be very grateful if all members would attend please.

Baptism: Last Saturday, 11th February 2012, in St Brendan’s Church, Clogher, we welcomed Baby Rachel Mary Carmody, daughter of Patrick Kelliher and Mary Carmody, living in Maglass, Ballymacelligott, into our parish community. As we congratulate Mary and Patrick, we ask the Lord to continue to bless both of them and Baby Rachel in every possible way, both now and in the future.

International Eucharistic Congress: The International Eucharistic Congress which normally takes place every four years, will take place in Dublin this year from 10th June 2012 until 17th June 2012. The theme of the Eucharistic Congress this year is “The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with one another” The programme of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress is built around the daily celebration of the Eucharist and each day has a theme of its own, related to the Congress theme. The main events of the programme from 11th – 16th June will take place in the R.D. S. Arena.

The programme for each day can be seen on the brochure which is on the main noticeboard of each church. A few more of these brochures can be found on the tables near the doors of our two churches. The Closing Ceremony and Mass (Statio Orbis) of the Eucharistic Congress will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, 17th June 2012, in Croke Park, as tens of thousands of Irish and international pilgrims celebrate their faith in the Eucharist.

People attending the Congress on 3 _ Day and 7_ Day tickets automatically get the opportunity to secure a ticket for the Statio Orbis. This leaves an allocation of over 30,000 tickets to be distributed to the Catholics of Ireland. The Bishops’ Conference discussed this in December and decided that the distribution of these tickets should happen on a local level, through the Dioceses. Our parish will receive a certain allocation of tickets. A €10 donation and a completed application form is requested for each ticket.

The donation helps cover the expense of using Croke Park for the Statio Orbis. The details requested in the application form are required by the Congress Office in Dublin to make allowances for people with special needs. Application forms are available in the Sacristy or from Fr. Pat in the Presbytery. Tickets are limited so not every one who applies may get a ticket. Application forms must be returned by 28th February as the names of those who will be allocated tickets by our parish along with the requested donation will have to be passed on to the Diocesan Office early in March.
