The goal of StatsAmerica is to provide actionable data for economic developers to use in site requests, developing metrics, grant writing and strategic planning.

StatsAmerica is a service of theIndiana Business Research Center(IBRC) at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, which is ranked among the nation'stop business schools. With support from the Economic Development Administration, we have developed a unique and useful set of tools and reports, as well as providing access to other EDA-funded projects.

We obtain thousands of data items from hundreds of data sets from dozens of federal and state sources, along with some commercial or private source data. While StatsAmerica adds value to these data through easy access and functionality, we acknowledge the direct agency source of the data on every table, profile or map.

Federal Reserve Bank of Boston-New England Economic Indicators

The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, as part of the Federal Reserve System, promotes price stability and sustainable growth in New England and the nation. In support of this function, the Bank’s economists advise Federal Reserve decision-makers on monetary policy and financial markets. They conduct innovative research to further our understanding of monetary policy, the national and regional economy, markets, and supervisory policy. Through presentations, papers, publications, conferences, and advisory activities, they share their insights and expertise with fellow professionals, policymakers, and the public at large.

New England's Knowledge Corridor

New England’s Knowledge Corridor isan interstate partnership of regional economic development, planning, business, tourism and educational institutions that work together to advance the region’s economic progress. The region we promote transcends political boundaries. It comprises the Hartford, Springfield and New Haven metro areas and is centered on seven counties, linked by a shared economy, history and culture and by features including Bradley International Airport, rail lines, Interstate 91 and the Connecticut River. The University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute provides government, business, and non-profit organizations with effective solutions in the areas of research, organizational development, training, and technical assistance. Working with our clients, we draw upon the faculty and staff from the five UMass campuses, bridging academic theory with real-world business applications.

Pioneer Valley Planning Commission

Since 1962, the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission has been the designated regional planning body for the Pioneer Valley region, which encompasses 43 cities and towns in the Hampden and Hampshire county areas. PVPC is the primary agency responsible for increasing communication, cooperation, and coordination among all levels of government as well as the private business and civic sectors in order to benefit the Pioneer Valley region and to improve its residents' quality of life.

Although PVPC is a public sector agency, it is not a direct arm of the federal or state governments. Rather, it is a consortium of local governments that have banded together under the provisions of state law to address problems and opportunities that are regional in scope. As a result, PVPC's planning area is designated as a special district under the provisions of state enabling legislation.

U.S. Census Bureau

The primary mission of the Census Bureau is conducting theU.S. Censusevery ten years, which allocates the seats of theU.S. House of Representativesto thestatesbased on their population.[1]In addition to the decennial census, the Census Bureau continually conducts dozens of othercensusesandsurveys, including theAmerican Community Survey, theU.S. Economic Census, and theCurrent Population Survey.[1]Furthermore, economic and foreign trade indicators released by the federal government typically contain data produced by the Census Bureau. The various censuses and surveys conducted by the Census Bureau help allocate over $400 billion in federal funds every year and helpstates, local communities, and businesses make informed decisions.[2]

U.S. Department of Labor/Bureau of Labor Statistics

TheBureau of Labor Statistics(BLS) is a unit of theUnited States Department of Labor. It is the principal fact-finding agency for theU.S. governmentin the broad field oflabor economics and statisticsand serves as a principal agency of theU.S. Federal Statistical System. The BLS is a governmental statistical agency that collects, processes, analyzes, and disseminates essential statistical data to the American public, theU.S. Congress, other Federal agencies, State and local governments, business, and labor representatives. The BLS also serves as a statistical resource to theDepartment of Labor, and conducts research into how much families need to earn to be able to enjoy a decent standard of living.[6]

The BLS data must satisfy a number of criteria, including relevance to current social and economic issues, timeliness in reflecting today’s rapidly changing economic conditions, accuracy and consistently high statistical quality, and impartiality in both subject matter and presentation. To avoid the appearance of partiality, the dates of major data releases are scheduled more than a year in advance, in coordination with theOffice of Management and Budget.
