Reappointments to the Board of Highlands and Islands Airports Limited

The Minister for Transport and The Islands, HumzaYousafMSP,today announcedthe reappointment of DavidSavile and TimWhittome.as Non-Executive Directors of the Board of Highlands and Islands Airports Limited(HIAL). The reappointments took effect from 1March2018.

DavidSavilejoined HIAL with 34years of aviation business experience, 27as CEO of the global aviation company, Air Partner plc. Under his tenure, the company grew to become the sector leader. The company provided specialist aircraft charter flights on all types of aircraft to multinational companies, celebrities, major governments, royalty, presidents and prime ministers. In2004, MrSavile was personally granted a Royal Warrant from HM the Queen, the first and only such honour to be granted in aviation. MrSavile is also a board member of Hangar8 plc, a private jet management company and has business interests in property and motoryacht charter.

TimWhittomegraduated as a mechanical engineer in1970 and worked in a variety of consultancy positions. He served as chairman of the British Standards Technical committee on passenger-carrying cableways. He was Chief Executive of the Cairngorm Chairlift Company and was a non-executive director of Cairngorm Mountain Ltd. MrWhittome served on the Board of Aviemore and Spey Valley Tourist Board and as vice-Chairman of the Cairngorms Chamber of commerce. He is a private pilot with more than 1,300 hours of flying experience and is currently Managing Director of Caledonian Air Surveys Ltd, an aerial photography company based at Inverness Airport.

Reappointments

MrSavile and MrWhittome’s reappointments are for twoyears from 1March2018 until 29February2020. The appointments attract remuneration of £296.97per day for a time commitment of twodays per month.

The reappointments are regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

Other Ministerial Appointments

MrSavile and MrWhittome do not hold any other Ministerial appointments.

Political Activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last fiveyears (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

MrSavile and MrWhittome have had no political activity in the last fiveyears.

Highlands and Islands Airports Limited

Highlands and Islands Airports Limited(HIAL) is a public body wholly owned by Scottish Ministers. The Company operates and manages 11airports in the Highlands and Islands (Barra, Benbecula, Campbeltown, Inverness, Islay, Kirkwall, Stornoway, Sumburgh, Tiree and Wick) and Dundee. These airports are vital to the social and economic welfare of the areas they serve and enable the communities to stay connected.

None of HIAL’s airports operates on a solely commercial basis and the Scottish Government provides subsidy to HIAL to close the gap between commercial revenue and operating costs to allow services to be maintained.
