“Building Competitive Communities” will focus on how to regionally align county and municipal master plans and restructure priorities to attract new economic development, conserve natural resources, and avoid duplication of public services in the region.

Keith Charters is a consultant specializing in land use growth management. His main focus has

been working to implement the Grand Traverse Bay Region Development Guidebook, a unique

manual that illustrates how development can not only complement but also enhance the natural

environment and the quality of life in an area such as the five-county Traverse Bay region.

Gil White, REALTOR®, has been a residential subdivision developer since 1982. He was

appointed to the Michigan Land Use Leadership Council in 2003 and has been a governor-appointed

member of the Michigan Agricultural Preservation Fund Board since 2000.

Greg Northrup formerly served as Director of Economic Development for CMS/Consumers

Energy, where he was responsible for launching the Grand New Vision. This comprehensive

program was designed to support the company’s ultimate decision to build their new $100 million

headquarters project in downtown Jackson.
