Instructions

1. You will be using this form throughout the school year. You will only be given one reading log recording sheet per semester (one in August and one in January). You will want to duplicate this page before writing on it, print another form from Share point, or keep a manual record on your own sheet of paper once this form has been completed.

2. Choose any grade-level book of at least 200 pages longyou’ve never read. You may abandon a novel and get another at any time, but you must finish reading a total of 350 pages independently each nine weeks. For the first nine weeks, you will read a novel based around a fiction or nonfiction historical hero. Although in-class reading for the first nine weeks will revolve around the Holocaust, your novel does not have to focus on that time period. For the third nine weeks, you will read a poetry novel of at least 150 pages where all of the poems are written by the same author, or it can be a collection of poetry written by multiple authors.

3. You will be required to write blogs, annotations, book talks, quick-writes, etc., as assigned by the teacher. Be prepared to do these entries more like a pop quiz where you have to produce the work on the spot or with at least one day’s notice. I will check for progress that you are keeping up with your daily reading and that your parents are signing this form. This sheet is to be turned in on our scheduled English nine weeks exam day each nine weeks and will also count as a test grade.

4. Bring your novel to class as you would a textbook—EVERY DAY!Writing assignments will consist of you having the opportunity to use your book at times in class. Points on assignments will be taken off if you do not have your book with you. Also, students without proper materials in class will be written up on a Class I form.
