Reading Words by Justin MacNeil

Verse 1

Momma would hold me, in her lap and read my favorite story before I sleep

I’m ten years old and I can’t read a word

But all my other friends they all could

And that really hurt

Refrain

Jack and the Beanstalk was my favorite story growing up

Mom would read it every night but it still was not enough

I remember the story from the pictures in the book

But when it comes to reading words I never could

Yah when it comes to reading words it always hurt

Verse 2

High school came and it didn’t go well

So I sat there counting the clock waiting for the bell

And when it came my time to read I would always try to pass

Cause I was scared that if I tried all the other kids would laugh

Cause when it comes to reading words I never could

Yah when it comes to reading words it always hurt

Verse 3

Twelfth grade came and its talent show time

So I wrote a song with my guitar and I made it rhyme

And I won a contest for the very first time what a beautiful day

And now I know that I learn in my own way

Refrain

Jack and the Beanstalk was my favorite story growing up

I’m a fan of Gary Paulson and “Henry and Mug”

Mom would read it every night but it still was not enough

I remember the stories from the pictures in the book

But when it comes to reading words I never could

Yah when it comes to reading words it always hurt
