Title I

Family Involvement Plan

2016-2017

Title I Vision:

We believe all children can learn literacy and math skills for success in school and life.

Title I Mission:

We strive to reach this goal by:

  • Aligning students’ individual needs with research-based instructional practices.
  • Working collaboratively with Title I staff, classroom teachers, school administrators, special service providers, and parents
  • Sharing educational and community experiences that support family literacy development and life-long learning

District Website:

Title I is a federally funded program designed to provide additional reading, writing and math services to students through an approved screening process.

Parents/guardians play an important role in assisting their child’s learning and are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education. Title I wants your input with our consolidated application process and family involvement plan.

Home/School Compact

The Home/School Compact brochure outlines the expectations of school staff, parents, and students. Parents are invited to review and revise the compact each year.

Communication

Title I staff will provide families with limited English proficiency, disabilities, and /or migratory children with information and student reports in a format the family understands. This includes alternative formats upon request and in a language families understand as required under section 1111 of the ESEA. In addition, we want to have families join us for our involvement events by providing transportation and child care when necessary.

Parents/guardians will receive a phone call from their child’s classroom teacher to discuss a referral to the Title I program. A letter along with copies of the Title I School/Parent/Student Compact and Family Involvement brochure will be sent home once a child is accepted into Title I.

Parents/guardians have the right to decline Title I services for their child. In addition, if a child no longer qualifies for Title I services, based on student

assessments, the parent will be informed that services will end.

Throughout the year communication with parents will be made through the use of:

▪ Monthly Newsletters

▪ Title I Website & Facebook

▪ Written Notices of Events

▪ Phone Calls

▪ Emails ▪ Conferences ▪ Surveys

**Materials and training will be provided at the following events to help families work with their child:

Committees, Activities & Events

Title I Advisory Committee

All parents/guardians are encouraged to become members of the Parent Advisory Committee, which meets up to four times per year. This committee provides feedback and makes recommendations to Title I staff in developing trainings and events that provide parents/guardians with information and resources to improve their child’s academic achievement.

Fall Open House/Annual Meeting

Families are invited to meet with the Title I Director, and Title I staff in each school, to learn details of what Title 1 services provide, what can be done at home to help children develop literacy and math skills, and to receive annual notices and a calendar of events. Parents and guardians have an opportunity to ask

questions and see a variety of activities children participate in while in the Title I program.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Provides an opportunity for parents/guardians and teachers to discuss student progress toward meeting Common Core Standards. Contact information for each Literacy Specialist and their respective schools are on the back of this brochure.

Family Fun Night

Family Fun Nights will be held throughout the year and will provide families with an opportunity to spend time together to explore a variety of learning opportunities around many different topics.

Assessment and Curriculum Night

Families are shown samples of test questions, how data is used to inform instruction, and see materials used in the classroom to help students meet Common Core Standards.

Book Publishing Opportunity

During the school year, each family has the opportunity to attend a book publishing workshop to learn how they can help their child publish

their very own hardcover book.
