Week of October 15th-19th

Reading/Science

  • The children will review the parts of a book including the front cover, back cover, spine, title, title page, and the jobs of an author and illustrator.
  • We will learn the difference between fiction and non-fiction books as we read about Bats. We will also study bats and create a book about bats in the Writer’s Workshop.
  • This week we will continue to review the letters Mm, Bb, Ss, Tt, and introduce the letter Aa.
  • We will learn the correct formation of A and a.
  • The letter of the week is Aa.
  • The high frequency words for the next two weeks will be: in, is, you, that and it.Please add these words to the Sight word ringsthat were sent home. You can find these words in the envelope attached to the blue Tuesday folder.

Writer’s Workshop

  • We will create a graphic organizer about Bats to help us write about them.
  • We will draw/write a book about Bats.

Math

  • We will continue to work on our Number Unit.
  • During this unit, the children will develop an understanding of the importance and value of numbers in their everyday lives and will learn to do the following: begin to identify numbers 0-20; count groups of objects to 20; write numbers 1-20; identify groups with 1 or 2 more or fewer; place numbers 1-20 in the correct order, as well as, identify missing numbers on a number line.

Homework

There has been some confusion regarding homework. The green homework journals go home in the Tuesday folder and should be returned on Wednesday. In the journals your child should be copying and finishing the sentence of the week. After they finish their writing, they should be illustrating their sentence. No other assignments should be completed in the green journal. Tic Tac Toe board homework should be completed on separate paper and all work should be stapled to the Tic Tac Toe board when it is complete and ready to be handed in. The handwriting worksheets that I send home are for at-home practice and do not need to be returned. Any other worksheets that I send home for homework will be stamped and labeled as homework. I hope this helps with regard to homework assignments.
