Reading Books and next Terms Learning

Dear Parents and Carers

As we enter the final half term, we have lots of exciting things planned for the children as well as changes to support their transition into Year 1.

Reading Books

To help support children with their transition into Year One we would like the children to start changing their own reading books in school. At the end of the school day when children change their story book they will also have the opportunity to change their reading book independently. If they have read their reading book to you then they can change it the following day in class. Please can you help your child with this by reminding them when they need to change it. Your child will still change their reading book when they have read to an adult in school.

Please remember that it is beneficial for your child to read a reading book to you more than once before changing it.

Baby Photos

After half term, we will be thinking about how humans grow and change as we get older. As part of this learning the children will be making comparisons between themselves as babies, and what they look like now, as well as what they have learned. In order for them to do this we would like them to bring in a photograph of themselves or of a family member e.g. mum, dad as a much younger child or baby. It would be really helpful to talk to them about the photo and what babies can and can’t do at that age. If possible please send in a copy of a photograph that you do not need returned with names written on the back. Please send the photographs in as soon as possible and no

later than Friday 9th June. If you have any problems or questions regarding this, please speak to a member of the team.

This half term we will also be thinking about animals and their habitats as well as Super Heroes.

Phonics

The children have almost completed the phonics programme of learning for Reception. Once we have finished it, we will be using the remaining time to consolidate, practise and embed the learning before the children move onto Year One. If you have lost any of the programmes we sent home over the year and would like another copy please ask a member of the Reception Team.
